最初、このCDを購入することを躊躇ってしまいました。画面には寺山修司の１９７４年の「田園に死す」という映画のサウンドトラック盤であるという記載が何処にも無く、J. シーザーの同名の作品なのかなと思ったのです。
私へ届いたパッケージを開けたら、大変嬉しいことに寺山修司の「田園に死す」のサントラ盤でした。
寺山作品から生まれた音楽には一癖二癖は有るので、断定的には他人には勧めませんが、収録された音楽の数々は悲しくもロマン溢れるもので、初めてお聴きになる方は多少なりとも衝撃を受けるとも想像しますが、寺山修司ファンにとってはたまらない程の感動です。

映画「田園に死す」のサントラだが、映画を知らなくても純粋に１つの音楽作品として楽しめる内容。74年作。懐かしくておぞましい、日本的・土着的・因習的で、閉塞感、絶望、恐怖、猥雑さに満ちた世界と、前衛性・シュールレアリズムが交錯し、あまりに強烈。
「こどもぼさつ」は少年合唱が歌う。賽の河原の物語。高音が出きってないのがかえって血のにじむような哀れさを助長。「謎が笛吹く影絵が踊る」は懐かしくて影のあるメロディ、シュールで死の臭いに満ちた詩。「化鳥の詩」は寂しげな曲と朗読。死んだ母さんの赤い櫛が叫ぶ、畑をかえせ、田をかえせ…女なんかに生まれるんじゃなかった、人の母にはなるんじゃなかった…痛々しい。「地獄篇」は暗く低く沈んだ合唱がだんだん盛り上がり、女声が歌い出す。沈んでゆく夕日が鮮やかに思い浮かぶような古ぼけた悲しいメロディーが激しく胸を打つ。「母恋餓鬼」は以前から大好きだった詩「眼球裏がゑる病」に曲が付いたものだったので、それだけでもう感涙ものだった。「桜暗黒方丈記」は衝撃的。血生臭く自らの生を呪うような詩世界、悲痛に迫ってくるメロディー、死んでくださいお母さん！非常に寺山修司らしい。「惜春鳥」はシュールで不幸な演歌。「短歌」は寺山修司本人が自分の名作短歌をわびしげなピアノに乗せて朗読。聞いてるとなぜだか泣けてくる。「空気女の唄」はやるせなさにじみ出る歌声が魅力的。見世物小屋の呼び込みも雰囲気あり。「和讃」は暗く壮大な名曲。「せきれい心中」はどこか懐かしいわらべ歌のよう。寂しげな笛の音色が心にしみる。「人々はどこへ」は歌詞は「あああ…」のみ同じメロディーを繰り返すだけなのにあまりにドラマチック。アコギと少人数によるわびしげな雰囲気から、歌の人数と楽器の種類だんだん増え、熱狂し、あまりに壮大・感動的な盛り上がりを見せる。

「田園に死す」は18歳の僕が観ても
充分すぎる衝撃とトラウマを与えてくれた
僕の中での記念碑的な作品です。
そしてその映画のサントラ!
もともと三上寛さんや、所謂"ここらへん"の人達は好きだったので
もうそんな僕にとってはたまらない内容でした。

素晴らしいという言葉ではとても表現仕切れない圧倒的な迫力。
物凄いものの前では言葉って本当に無力ですね。

そして受け手も!
