   権力に抵抗し続け、また恋人を失いそうになりながらも、自分の信念を貫き通す刑事を描くイギリス人監督によるアメリカ映画。スティーブ・マックィーンが実際に公道で繰り広げたスタントなしのカーチェイスシーンはこの映画のハイライトでもあり、坂道の多いサンフランシスコを舞台に設定したことも相まって、その後のカーアクション映画に大きな影響をもたらしたエポック的作品でもある。

　「ブリット」というと，大迫力のカーアクションで語られることが多い。坂の街サンフランシスコを疾走する（ジャンプまでする）シーンは印象的で，確かに圧巻だ。だがそれ以外にも，クールな魅力満載の本作。
　まずブリットのファッション。紺のタートルにブラウンのジャケット（肘当て付き）など，スマートでイカす。ルーズだが腕利きというキャラクター。お馴染みラロ・シフリンの音楽。静と動のメリハリの効いた演出，刑事ドラマとしてのストーリーも秀逸。マックィーンはじめ，名優達の抑えたいい演技。ロバート・ボーンにジャクリーン・ビセット，そしてロバート・デュバルもタクシードライバー役で出演。アカデミー編集賞。
　２枚組で特典満載なのが嬉しい。

７０年代初頭には刑事映画の傑作が目白押しだった、「ダーティーハリー」「フレンチ･コネクション」それぞれが傑作だが、「ブリット」はマックイーン主演のスタイリッシュな刑事映画の佳作だ。ラロ・シフリンのスリリングなテーマ曲にのって、犯行現場の映像がタイトル文字に映し出されるオープニングが洒落ている。敏捷でクールで男っぽいマックイーンの魅力が最高の映画だ。そして、カーマニアで有名なマックイーンが本当に運転しているムスタングの追跡シーンがこの映画の白眉だ。追うものと追われるものがいつしか入れ替わり、チェイスが始まる瞬間の緊張感がたまらなくいい。後半の空港を舞台にした追跡シーンも迫力たっぷりだ。しかしＲ・ボーンを黒幕にすえた豪華なキャスティングをしているのに、その悪徳議員の陰謀に利用されていたというストーリーが、今ひとつ盛り上がりに欠けるのが惜しい。パフォーマンスでは最高なのだが、この点で他の傑作刑事映画に一歩引けを取っている感が否めない。

　語る言葉は少ないのですが、演技で物を語ってしまう。この作品のマックィーンはそんな感じです。マックィーンの演技・カーチェイス・洋服など見るところは多いのですが、作品内容としては正直微妙な感じです。ただ、相変わらずマックィーンは男臭い渋い男を演じています。そのマックィーンを見るだけで十分に価値のある作品だと思います。

　今回スペシャルエディション発売ということで、映像特典も多く収録されていますのでファンはもちろん買いでしょう。
