Album Description

Minneapolis's Motion City Soundtrack took the indie scene by storm with their 2003 debut, "I Am The Movie". This follow-up represents a major step forward, a breakthrough release in the tradition of Jimmy Eat World's "Bleed American" or AFI's "Sing The Sorrow"; a masterpiece of pop harmonies and sing along choruses layered on top of their trademark angular guitars, loopy synths, and stop/start dynamics. Produced by Mark Hoppus (Blink 182).

　ミネアポリス出身の5ピース・バンドの通算二枚目となるのが今作。前作の1stは私好みのEMOパンクスタイルで一聴しただけで気に入ったというわけですが、さて今作はツアーをサポートした経緯もあるブリンク182のマークがプロデュースを手掛けています。私は1st収録の"Future Freaks Me Out"が非常に気に入っていて、それを越えるインパクトを与える曲は私に関していえばなかったのですが、全体を通して単純に1stよりいい曲揃っているように思います。相変わらずムーグ全開なのですがとりわけM6の間奏のムーグは痛快です♪前作と比較すると弱冠エモ色が濃い目で、繊細でいて伸びやかなヴォーカルの特色を活かした曲（例えばM4とか）が目立っているように思います。あと前述でインパクトうんぬん言ったものの、自分みたいな"Future~"好きな人にとってM2はその曲を彷彿とさせ気に入ると思います。とにかく完成度の高いこの作品を聴かされたらライヴ観たいって願望が自然に高まっちゃうというものです♪

　MCSの2nd!!好きになったキッカケは、1stの“my favorite~”のムーグと勢いだったんだけど、皆さん書かれているように、このアルバムは1stのようなグルーヴではないかな・・けど、個人的には、このアルバムのが好き!!

何より、バンドとしての完成度がかなり高くなった!!バンドのアンサンブルがとてもうまい!!ギターは歪み系の音を抑えた分、きれいに絡めてるし、ムーグも1stに比べると、溶け込んでいて、ヴォーカルがまた、歌うの上手くなってるし、ドラムとベースも1stにはないアプローチしてるし、1stから今作までの間に、凄い数のライヴをこなしてきたんだな~っていう、バンドの成長が聴けます。ま、角が取れるのをポップというなら、ポップになったね。ただ、それが残念かどうかは別にして、「ポップになったね」だけでは片づけられないアルバムだ！

全曲フルコーラス公式サイトで試聴可能(7月現在)。聴きやすいのが好きな人は2を聴くとハマるのでは。3はMatchbook Romanceとのスプリットに収められていた曲。アコースティックだったのが、このアルバムではバンドアレンジになってます。パンクオーラマ10の一曲目にも収録されているし、エピタフもかなり期待しているはず。

個人的に6~7は必聴!!8のラストのムーグワークは、相変わらずのMCS節!!なんだかんだでMCSの音が好きな人は買って損はしない!!!

エモ・ポップパンクとでも言いましょうか。今後のエピタフを支えていくであろうＭＣＳの２ｎｄ
アルバムです。前作に比べ全体的にシンプル＆タイトになったと感じました。と言っても音数や
手数が減ったのではなく、各パートがぶつからないようにしたうえで、シェイプアップして際立た
せたような印象。それはメロディや音作りにも感じられます。１ｓｔではムーグの音が少し耳につく
なと思っていたんですが今作ではやわらかく心地良い音になっており、ギターの歪みも少し抑えられ
ていてバランス良いです。前作よりアグレッション（そんなに攻撃的だったわけではないが）を控えた
メロディもポップに行き過ぎた感はあるものの、どの曲もポジティヴな気分にさせてくれる珠玉の出来
です。バンドが成長して角が取れて、肩の力を抜いて作れたのがこのアルバムなのかな、と思います。
バンド自身の力とマーク・ホッパス（blink182）のプロデュースがうまくかみ合った傑作。
