2002年、ノルウェーのエレクトロ・デュオ、スヴェイン・ベルグとトルビョルン・ブルントラントは、繊細な『ムーン・サファリ』（原題『Moon Safari』）風のポップスと、ボーズ・オブ・カナダの雰囲気のふたつの間に最高の魅力を見つけ、『メロディー A.M.』（原題『Melody A.M.』）で幅広い人気をつかんだ。『The Understanding』（邦題『ジ・アンダースタンディング』）は、かなり放心状態に聞こえ、パニックに陥ったハエが部屋の中をすごいスピードで飛び回っているような感じだ。だからうまく仕上がっているといえるのは、弾むような「Only This Moment」（邦題「オンリー・ディス・モーメント」）で、特におもしろいともいえる、フィッシャースプーナーが一番馬鹿なことをしているときを思わせる。また、「49 Percent」（邦題「49パーセント」）では、ニュージャック系のチェロニス・R・ジョーンズをヴォーカルに迎えて魅力を増している。しかし、甘ったるいシンセポップの「Follow My Ruin」（原題「フォロー・マイ・ルイン」）や、『メロディー A.M.』（原題『Melody A.M.』）を心地よいものにしていた、動き豊かなダウンテンポのリズムとアヴァンギャルドな基盤が欠けているのが残念だと何度も感じられた。とはいえ、キーボードの激しい音がすべるように入り込む「What Else Is There?」（邦題「ホワット・エルス・イズ・ゼア？」）など、人を惹きつける力や的確なクロス・リズムは相変わらずだ。それにしても、ヒット作後の新作の成功が難しいというのは確かなようで、うまくできているところも多いものの、ベルグとブルントラントもこのジンクスを破ることはできていない。注：限定盤は5つの新曲が入った特別CD付き。（Matthew Cooke, Amazon.com）
