　ロレンツオの悲惨な状況から、普通の親であれば投げ出してしまうものを必死で文献を読み漁り、
生化学的にも非常に重要な発見をするところは化学にかかわったものとしては尊敬に値する。
　しかも特筆すべきはエルカ酸の単離を行った化学者は実際にロレンツオの治療にかかわった本人が出演していると言う点である。
　化学の知識がないと理解できない部分が多いので売れるかどうかということでいえば非常に難しいと思うが感動する作品である。

こういう難病ものの作品は、下手をするとお涙頂戴のメロドラマになってしまう事が多々あるのですが、この作品についてはニック・ノルティとスーザン・サランドンの両親が子供のために全てを擲って病気に立ち向かう姿を非常に情感込めて描いております。

最近の世の中は子供への虐待、あるいは子供が親を殺してしまうといった親子間の愛情の欠如から起こる、どうにもやるせない事件が多いですが、この作品を観終ったら、正に親が子供にしてやれる事、それは何なのかを痛いほど、教えてくれます。

自分が果たして我が子にここまで出来るのか、一抹の不安を感じてしまうのですが、現代の子を子と思わない、親を親と思わない家族に是非とも観て欲しい作品ですね。

午前２時に目が覚めた。
「ロレンツォのオイル」を、ヘッドフォンで聴いているのだ。なるほどなるほどと感心して観た。うまくいったようだ。涙がきっとでるだろう。半分眠りながら聴いていた。
