   前回のヒット作『Elephunk』同様に、ブラック・アイド・ピーズ（BEP）の新譜『Monkey Business』はヒップホップ、ロック、フォーク、ファンク、ポップのジャンルをミックスした多彩な作品となっている。BEPが様々なスタイルにまたがってオーディエンスを魅了する理由は、バンドのメンバーたち自身が様々な音楽の明らかなファンだからに違いない。また、『Monkey Business』ほど豪華なゲスト陣を迎えたアルバムもない。『Elephunk』からの大ヒット「Where Is the Love」ではジャスティン・ティンバーレイクを迎えたが、本作でも大物たちをスマートに、かつリスペクトしてバンドの一員に迎えている。「My Style」はティンバーレイクがBEPに参加した第2弾。曲はファンキーでポップなものだが、ジャスティンの声が前面に出ることを期待するファンは肩透かしをくらうだろう。今回は彼の声は平坦にミックスされて、甘くソウルフルなソロにはなっていない。

   他のゲスト陣は、素晴らしき「Gone Going」を共同で書いたジャック・ジョンソン、「Union」のスティング（元ポリスの彼が「Englishman in New York」に少々インスパイアされた）、そして「They Don't Want Music」は、ファンクの伝説ジェイムズ・ブラウン入魂の声が聞ける。前作から参加している女性ヴォーカルのファージーのお陰で、4人組になって2枚目、バンドの4thアルバムはぐっと幅が広がった。彼女が小粋に歌う「My Humps」、「Hey Mama」のような「Dum Diddly」、1stシングルの「Don't Phunk With My Heart」を通じて、ファージーがメロディーに貢献したお陰で本作品はより幅広いオーディエンスに聞かれることだろう。本当の意味で手に取りやすい“ヒップホップの”CDだ。（Denise Sheppard, Amazon.com）

前から気になっていたブラック・アイド・ピーズ。今回初めてCDを買いましたが、買ってよかったです！このグループはおもしろいです！軽快で、おしゃれで、のりがよく、もう、何度も聴いています。彼らの独特の音楽センスも素敵ですが、個人的にはファーギーの声が良いですね〜！別の方のレビューにもありましたがセクシーというより、エロくて、いいスパイスというか、くせになる〜！何度も聞きたくなるのは本当です。４ Don't Lie 5. My humps 9. Gone Going　が特に良いです。15の Union　はスティングのオリジナルの "English man in New York"　ですが、こういうアレンジでも素敵ですね。これからもどんどん活躍して良い音楽を出して欲しいな〜と思います。満足！

Black eyed peasの4thアルバム。

PV見て久々に聞きたいな、と思って棚から引っ張り出してきましたが、これとてもいいアルバムなんですよね。
前作の「エレファンク」からさらにパワーアップしたアルバムで、ゲスト陣が異常な程豪華。

パルプ･フィクションのイントロが超印象的なオープニングナンバー「Pmup it」でディック・デイルが、
Englishman in new yorkのサンプリングであり、スティング自身が参加している「Union」は歌詞もちゃんと読んで欲しいし、
ジャスティン・ティンバーレイク「My style」、ジェイムズ・ブラウン「They Don't Want Music」、そして大ブレイクしたジョン・レジェンド、
ジャック・ジョンソンなど参加など、てんこ盛りな内容です。

ひとえにヒップホップといってもこれはPOPS的な間口の広いアルバムですから、
聞いてみて損はないですよ。

2005年の名盤といっても過言ではないです。
聞いた事ない人は是非。

国内盤での宣伝文句は「猿でもわかる、いい音楽」とされているが、実際のところ人間でも簡単には飲み込めないほど複雑な内容だ。
前作のエレファンクでは持ち前のファンキーな音楽性に女性ボーカリストが加わったことやPOPな音楽性に変貌したことにより、POPSのマーケットに攻めやすくなった。それだけでなく、ジャスティン。ティンバレイクがゲスト参加したり、と過去の作品と違いが出たことによってアルバムが全米チャート14位まで上昇。グラミー賞でノミネートされると共に
全米だけでも200万枚のセールスを記録。4曲ものヒットシングルが生まれた。

その成功のお陰で今回は資金が急激に増え、時間をかけて多彩なゲストを招いている。STINGのEnglishman In New Yorkを作り変えたUnionではSTING本人が参加。よりファンキーな仕上がりになっている。
ジャスティン参加のMy StyleはTIMBALANDと共同プロデュースで、ジャスティンのアルバムにも入っているようなリズミカルなナンバー。
James Brownが参加したThey Don't Want Musicは元祖ファンクパワー全開で、彼のパフォーマンスも絶好調。ゴットファーザーが再びシーンの最前線に戻ってきたような一幕も感じられる。
ボサノヴァの女王Astrud GilbertoのWho Can I Turn ToをサンプリングしたLike Thatでは何ともゴージャスにQ-TIPで幕を開け、タリブ・クウェリ、CEE-LOが交代でラップリレー、さらにKANYE WESTのレーベルからデビューしたJOHN LEGENDがコーラスを歌うという爽快なナンバー。
グウェン・ステファニが歌いそうな先行シングルも派手なノリの良いファンクナンバーに仕上がっており、全体を通して聴くと、かなりお腹いっぱいな気分になる。とにかく仕掛けが多いので何度聴いても飽きない。全米チャートでも初登場2位と健闘している。
