5.0 out of 5 stars 泥臭くギラギラしていながら、なおスタイリッシュな「人間賛歌」の映像美, 2005/10/11
　終戦直後の混沌期をたくましく生きる女達を描いた、田村泰次郎の同名小説を映画化した作品である。が、文芸映画という印象は薄い。復興期の東京で、文字通り身体を張って生きている売春婦が主人公である。その描写が実にリアリティ溢れており、逆に、しかつめらしい哲学性を寄せ付けないのである。

　そこにあるのは、徹底したバイタリティのみ。死線を彷徨った人間のみが醸し出せる、したたかさが魅力的なのだ。ギラギラとした剥き身の生存本能、これに直結するエロス。これが、時にもどかしく、時にあっけらかんと紡ぎ出されている。

　野川由美子を始め女優陣の個性と熱演、それをシャープに切り出す清純節が魅力だが、それは大前提として、個人的に一番惹かれるのは、木村威夫の美術である。リアリティに溢れながらもどこか虚構性を濃密に漂わせた、焼け跡やヤミ市のセットの数々が素晴らしい。もはや特撮の範疇だよなぁ。

　本作が制作された1964年といえば、先の大戦終結から20年くらいたった頃。「もはや戦後ではない」などと言われ始めた時代でした。そんな中、実際に戦争に従軍した経験をもつ鈴木清順監督がメガホンをとった作品です。　

　戦後の大混乱期を生き抜いた娼婦たちの物語。当時は本当に、毎日が生きるか死ぬかのサバイバルでした。まさに弱肉強食、みんな生き抜くのに必死だったんです。そういった中での女性たちの逞しさが、逆に観ていて切なさを感じさせます。デビューしたばかりの野川由美子さんの美しさは言うまでもありませんが、70年代以降テレビなどでのオバちゃん役が多い石井富子さんまでが娼婦役というのが、なんか凄い。

　最近は反戦などというのもおこがましいご時世になりつつあります。そんな時、戦争の持つ現実について考えるのにはいい機会になる作品だと思います。当時の女性たちのバイタリティーさに併せ持つ哀しさ、みたいなものがうまく表現されていて、まさに名作です。

今見てもなんら古さを感じさせない、ツィゴイネルワイゼンとならぶ鈴木清順の代表作。戦後間もなくの日本を再現したセットが素晴らしい。戦後の混乱期に体を売って生き延びる4人の女と宍戸錠演ずる復員兵は、ある意味敗戦のトラウマを引きずっている。女たちはGIには体を売らない。宍戸錠演ずる「しんちゃん」は、生きて帰ってきた負い目と、アメリカに対する圧倒的反発を心に宿している。彼らは、まるでプラスとマイナスの磁石のようにお互いをひきつけあうが、それは結局破滅せざるをえない関係だ。牛をさばいて、肉を食うシーンは痛烈な皮肉をともなって、「精神」に向けられた徹底した懐疑と、アメリカに対する強烈な葛藤を象徴する。鞭打たれる女達の叫びや、しんちゃんを貫く銃弾は戦中「日本精神」の断末魔の叫びである。必見の名作である。
