幾多の忠臣蔵作品で、後日談物は初めてだったのでひかれました。鑑賞し終わった後に原作を読んでみたくなるほど、とても良かったです！主演の上川さん始め、豪華なキャストとその演技力も素晴らしく、美しい言葉遣い、心に留めておきたい名台詞の数々を見つけることが出来ました。「忠義に死するは容易なこと、生くることこそむつかしい・・・」「忠義に死んだものは誉れに高く、残されたものはぶざまな生きようをしいられる」この時代のそれぞれにおかれている立場の考え方の相違、想いなどが描かれており、忠臣蔵ファンならずとも見ていただきたいですね。いろんな意味で日本人の心底に流れる思想を揺り起こしてくれるような静かで力強い作品でした。

上川さんと香川さんにハズレ無し、でした。盟友であった二人が、それぞれ密命を受け、別々の運命を辿り再会した時、その真実が語られます。「何故自分が…」という問いに、思わず同情してしまいました。

知る人ぞ知る傑作「十三人の刺客」(工藤栄一監督）の脚本家池上金男（池宮彰一郎）の原作によるドラマ。ジェームス三木の脚色が冴えに冴えている。だから原作とは大小幾つかの違いがある。立会いの後、吉右衛門が山吉新八郎に竜胆を手渡す佳いシーン、原作はあべこべで花も違う。新八郎が吉右衛門に満天星を手渡すのである。大きな相異は吉右衛門と篠との関係である。本作のような色模様は原作にはない。吉右衛門が惚れるのは原作では夫が逐電して残されたまだ若く美しい槇であるが結局片思いで終る。本作では進藤源四郎（江守徹）や天川屋（津川雅彦）が精彩を放ち、将軍綱吉の造形が珍妙で強く印象に残る。また、ちょっと出る“日本一の斬られ役”福本清三の清水一角が立派。あれやこれやスタッフ・キャストの意気込みを感じる見所いっぱいの作品である。こういう秀作を見ると、民放のＣＭ混じりの粗製ドラマなど益々見る気がしなくなる。あっ失礼、民放ドラマのファンもいるのですね。
