69年作。ジョー・ニューマンやジェームス・ムーディ、ジョー・ファレルほか、腕達者が多数参加し、御大主導のゴージャスなジャズが展開するのか、と思いきや、当時のファンクやR&B、ソウルなどを取り入れたポップ路線の作品。なるほど、コーネル・デュプリーも参加しているし……。いやあ、楽しい。ジャズ云々はどうでもよく、当時のポップスの空気感漂う、これは理屈抜きに楽しむジャズ・ファンク。御大が、コーラス・グループをバックに、ご機嫌にトランペットを吹いている様子を思い浮かべて聴けば、こちらもうれしくなる。 (上村敏晃) --- 2005年06月号
