   トレント・レズナーは常に一癖ある男だが、それは極上の一癖だ。陽気なメロディーを凶暴なエレキでかき鳴らす癖。不運にも、この一癖のインパクトは不機嫌さや自己陶酔への傾向によって薄まることもしばしばだった。それでも、NINの前作『The Fragile』からほぼ6年が過ぎたが、この癖そのものはティーンを唸らせるアピールを少しも失いはしなかった。『With Teeth』は冒頭の「All the Love in the World」から弾け、「The Collector」のような曲ではデイヴ・グロールの叩きつけるようなドラムが最大限に生かされている。レズナーは異なる手法を試みようと、あからさまにマーケットを意識したお祭り騒ぎ「The Hand That Feeds」から、ニューウェイヴすれすれの「Only」まで幅を広げている。だが、『With Teeth』は幅を広げることを目的としたアルバムではない。変わらぬ一癖を、もっとうまい形で発揮してみたアルバムだ。騒々しさを減らし、もっと取っつきやすくして。『Pretty Hate Machine』の散漫なところを『Downward Spiral』式に端正に凝縮して、NINの作品で最も密度のあるアルバムに仕上げている。（Matthew Cooke, Amazon.com）

待ちに待ったNINの通算4枚目、6年振りの新作です。
あまりの変貌振りに、予約までして発売日の次の日には聴いていたのに、
どう言い表せば良いのか悩みました…
今までに比べて非常に毒気や重みが減りましたが(それも激減)、
聴き込むほどに味を持つ良いアルバムだと思います。
何と言うか…私生活の激変で自らのレーベルを閉鎖し、
ドラッグとアルコール漬けの破滅寸前の生活から抜け出して、
新たな生活を始めたというトレントさんの決意が感じられました。
BROKENの頃の怒りの暴走とは違う、活気のある“闘争心”を感じます。

音使いは今までとは全然違いますが、
今までの作品で養ってきたノウハウが存分に生かされていると思います。
生演奏中心のバンド･サウンドですけど、(何曲かでFOO FIGHTERS、元NIRVANAの
デイブ・グロールがアグレッシブなドラムを叩いてます。)
もう名人芸としか言えないようなエレクトロニックの使い方が凄いです。
多くの曲は決して前には出過ぎないですけど、生演奏の迫力をひきたてています
（逆に11.12.ではそれを前面に押し出したド迫力の音世界を構築してます）

アルバム全体で見るとちょっと中だるみしてる気がしますが、
1~6.までの流れは文句無くカッコ良いですし、ラスト2曲の夕立ち後のような
しっとりとした雰囲気で終わるのもすごく良いです。

雰囲気は大幅に変わりましたが、やはりNIN、トレント・レズナーにしか作れない世界だと思います。
やはりこの人はリスナーの求めるものだけを作る職人では無くて、
音で自分を表現するアーティストなんだなぁと思います。

音楽にあまり詳しくないので､感覚的なことしか言えませんが、一言でこのアルバムを形容するとすれば､闇の中から長い年月を経て､生まれた究極のかっこ良さ。ほんと、かっこいいといったらないです。これを聞いていると、闇に焼かれて血がたぎるような、大地を轟かせながら黒いエネルギーが､押し寄せてくるような感じがします。抑圧と爆発。静かな空間に、ビッグバンを起こしちゃうくらいのエネルギーが渦巻いてるかんじ。わけわかんないレビューでごめんなさい。とにかく良いので絶対聞いてみてください。
