   仲間たちの多くが70年代メタルとアリーナ・ロックを捨てて、パンク/ニューウェイヴの時流に迎合したが、デフ・レパードは初期の音楽をエネルギッシュでポップ風のフックのある味付けでスマートに強調して、UKのニューメタル・リバイバルの先駆者となり、80年代のもっとも華々しい成功を遂げたロック・バンドとなった。この35曲入り、2時間半に及ぶ2枚組アルバムの最初のトラックは、初期MTV時代の懐かしのヒット、プラチナ・セールスをあげたものに焦点を当てているが、ビデオを編集してリミックスした「Pour Some Sugar On Me」と「Rocket」はもっとクラブ向きの現代的なグルーヴのデフ・レパードを演出しようとしている。しかし、ディスク1よりもっと雑多なディスク2は、初期の見逃された『On Through the Night』や『High 'N' Dry』のショーケースとなっている。同様に、あまりにも評価の低い後期の宝である99年の「Promises」と、近々発表のカバー・プロジェクトから、完璧なパワーポップであるバッドフィンガーの「No Matter What」も収録。（Jerry McCulley, Amazon.com）

Def Leppardの最新ベスト2枚組CDです。　　81年のデビューアルバム‘On Through The Night’から新曲‘No Matter What’まで、全35曲が収録されています。

　サードアルバム‘Pyromania’あたりから「なかなかアルバムを出さないバンド」として有名ですが、出せばバカ売れ、特にアメリカでは上位チャートイン間違いなしで、これも例外になく売れています。　　制作に膨大な時間を費やした作品はどれも完成度が高く、聴いてて安心だし万人受けするのも当然といった感じです。　　このサウンドは中毒的な魅力があって、私は大ファンというわけではないのですが、アルバムを発表する度に思わず買っていて、気が付けば全部揃っている状況。　　このアルバム1枚目のメロディアス且つキャッチーなヒット曲の数々を聴けば、それも納得です。

　新曲のBadfingerのカバー‘No Matter What’に関して言えば、カバー曲ばかり収録したニューアルバムからとのことですが、『別のバンドの曲が混ざってる？』と勘違いするぐらいのLeppsらしからぬサウンドでちょっとどうかな？というのが正直な感想。　　次の曲‘Promises’が典型的なLeppsサウンドの曲なので、対照的でよけいそう思ったのでしょうが・・・。　　

　ライナーノーツにメンバーが1曲ごとにコメントを出しているのと、懐かしめの写真（中にPhilの半ケツというわけのわからない写真も1枚あります）がちょこちょこあるのがベストアルバムらしいです。

　2枚組でこの値段なので、Leppsを知らない人も気軽に買って、なぜこのバンドがこれだけ成功しているか自分の耳で確認してみて下さい。　　きっと納得するはずです。

　知らぬ間の発売されてた北米盤のリマスターベスト盤。カバー１曲の為に、
買ってしまうファン泣かせのレップス。（笑）ハッキリ言って音良し、選曲よし、未発表音源あり、ですのでファンは買いです！国内盤のベストより、音が向上してる感じがします。
