5.0 out of 5 stars 奇跡のフィルムを収めた貴重なDVD, 2007/5/10
1928年にオリジナルネガフィルムがドイツウーファ社の火災により焼失し、完全なフィルムは存在しないと言われてきた『裁かるゝジャンヌ』。ドライヤーがオリジナルに使用しなかったフィルムで再編集しました（第二版）が、その第二版ネガも焼失。おまけに製作元は倒産。その後は、世の中に出回っていたポジフィルムをかき集めてかろうじて作品の体をなしていました。しかし、なんと60年近くも経って、製作直後にデンマーク公開のために送られていた完全オリジナル版がまったくの偶然から発見されます。その奇跡のようなオリジナルフィルムをDVD化したのがこのパッケージ。映画評論家のドナルド・リチー氏が、もう見ることが出来なくなってしまったと嘆いていた、ジャンヌが放血術を施されるシーンもきちんと収録されています。画質も極めて良好で、まことに貴重なDVD。ハピネットから出ているもう一つのほうは、オリジナル版ではありません。

映画は、良く知られているジャンヌ・ダルクの異端審問と処刑を描くサイレントの至芸。リアルさを追求するために、余分な要素を全てそぎ落とした映像が見事。音楽もなくタイトルも最小限、審問室や火刑場の全景も写さず、登場人物同士の関係さえ情報として観客に与えません。その上で、徹底したクローズアップ。ノーメイクで皺の一本一本まで超リアルな役者の表情。これを見せられると、私たちは、まず間違いなくファルコネッティ演ずるジャンヌに激しく感情移入します。シンクロします。そして、そのシンクロ状態で向かえる後半の火刑シーン。世の中にはなんという映画を作る人がいるのでしょう。ご自身の目で、是非一度ご鑑賞ください。

このDVDは高品質です。「裁かるゝジャンヌ」は、以前にも別の会社から発売されたことがありますが、画質の鮮明さと透明感において、こちらが圧倒的に優れています。私は今まで本作のことを、何だか女優のクローズアップばかりでボンヤリした映画だなあ、としか思っていませんでした。しかし、このDVDを観たとたん、これは決してそのような“退屈な芸術作品”などではなく、髑髏に蛆虫の湧く描写ひとつ取っても生々しく、生き生きとした、厳格でありかつ怖い映画であることを知りました。

メーカーの皆さま、貴社が発売なさったこの作品は、映画ファンの財産です。どうかこの先も、このDVDを絶版にすることのないよう、お願い致します。

　ジャンヌ・ダルクのような神話的人物の悲劇を描くには、サイレントこそ、それにもっともふさわしい手法であると感じさせる映画史上の傑作。1927年のフランスで、デンマーク人監督カール・テホ・ドライヤーによって撮られた。ドライヤーは構図や演出の厳格さから、小津やブレッソンと並んで論じられることもあるが、全体のかなりの部分がジャンヌの顔のクローズアップでできているこんな作品は、(ブレッソンについては不勉強で何もいえませんが）少なくとも小津は無声時代に撮っていない。これを観たあとは、どんなに時間がたっても、ジャンヌを演じたルネ・ファルコネッティの崇高な顔が頭の中から離れることはないだろう。
　ジャンヌは弁明のためにたしかにしゃべってはいるのだが、観たあとの印象では、彼女の沈黙こそが、その置かれた立場、感情、恐怖、神への強い信仰を、何よりも雄弁に語っているように思えた。
　このDVDを買って観るのはもちろん、機会があれば大スクリーンで観ることもお勧めします。
