数々のOV監督経験を経て、劇場デビューを飾った藤原健一監督が描くサスペンスドラマ。渋谷で爆破事件を起こした14歳の少年“ホーリーナイト”は少年法の規定により僅か4年で出所してくる。そんな彼の前にある確信を持ったひとりの刑事が現れる。

14歳の少年が渋谷で爆破事件を起こし逮捕される。少年法の規定により、4年後に少年院を出所した彼を待っていたのは教師を辞して清掃員として働く父と、事件によって家族を失った刑事だった。立場の違う二人の父親の葛藤と少年事件の実態、そして少年法の問題を真正面から受け止めた作品「イズ・エー[is A.]」をパッケージ化。

アイデアはいい。
だが、問題はその描き方だ。
あまりにも陳腐すぎる。
実際に取材したりしたのか？
イメージだけで話つくってんじゃないの？
役者はみんな超一級の演技なのに、やり方が陳腐すぎて、
だめ。テレビドラマじゃないんだから、もっと、リアルな
演技させてもいいとだろう。完全にテレビドラマのような
演出がされてて、途中でゲンナリした。
それに、少年の書く詩も独りよがりで頭悪そうに見えるだけ。
「ホーリーナイト」っていう名前もセンスなさすぎ。
もっともっと淡々ととれば衝撃があってよかった。
きっとこの映画とった人は現場経験の長い、やたら映画に詳しい人で
いざ映画とってみるとぜんぜん詰まらんこういう映画とっちゃう人だと
思う。役者がいいだけに、無茶苦茶もったいなかった。

　１４歳の少年が犯した動機なき無差別爆破殺人事件。これから派生する人間模様を描いた作品。少年の内面や生い立ち、あるいは少年法に踏み込まず、加害者と被害者の父親感情に傾注しているが、感情の粗描が物足りないので、消化不良の作品になってしまっている。本作は『イズ・エー』ではなく『２人のオヤジ』というタイトルが相応しいのではないだろうか。安直な解決策で向こう見ずなラストは致命的だ。これには辟易せざるを得ない。

パッケージ裏を読んでレンタルしてみました。
全体的にもやもやとしてとてもチープな作品に感じました。
ドラマじみたような台詞や演出も残念でした。
観ることに疲れる映画だなと思いました。
