ついに５作目のフルアルバム完成しました。
間にあったＩ［ＥＰ］が出てから直ぐだったので前作から直ぐ出た感じもしましたし、作風が凄く気になる所でした。Ｉは一曲だけで３０分近い構成でしたが、今回は５０分近くの一曲構成です。ただＩは１トラックしかないのに比べこちらはトラックがちゃんと分かれています。トラックがチャプターと言った感じですね。それだけに聴いているとあれよあれよと進んで行く感じで気付いたら４トラック目みたいな感じです。１、２作目が同じ方向性の作品で３作目でモダンヘヴィネスに近づき、４作目で彼等独特の世界を押し進めた独自の作品を作り出しましたが、今回は４作目の延長と考えられる作風です。それだけに２→３→４と言った変化程はないです。でもリードギターのフレドリックのソロも４０分位の１曲構成でしたが、彼等は結構こういう流れが好きな様ですね。ソロが再販で曲をチャプターごとに分けてでましたが、曲を多少分けて出してくれたのは良かったかと思います。そうじゃなければ５０分近くを途中で止められませんからね。でも意外と長いなと感じさせず聞き終えてしまっただけにやはり凄いバンドだなと再確認させられました。☆４つ止まりなのはわかり辛い作品なだけにもう少し聴いてと言った所です

カルト的人気を誇るスウェーデン出身のハイパー・プログメタル集団Meshuggah（メシュガー）によるフルレンスとしては第５作目のアルバム。2005年の作品。

1991年のメジャーデビュー以来、アルバム発表ごとに確実な成長力を見せてきた彼らが今回送り出した作品は、何と全1曲のみの「大作」。とはいっても13パートに分かれていて、インデックスもついています。前作「Nothing」ではド迫力の号音ながらも彼らにしては比較的分かりやすく、語弊を承知で言えば「明るい楽曲」を志向していましたが、この作品では一転してダークで陰鬱とした曲調で終始しています。ガムシャラに疾走するヤケクソさは影を潜め、ミディアムテンポに落とされた一連のプレイは思索的ですらあります。

したがって、従来の作品に共通する「ヤケクソの疾走感」を求めてこの作品に臨むと、若干違和感を感じるかもしれません。そこら辺りが評価が分かれる要因だと思いますが、何度も聴き込むことによって次第にハマッテしまう危険な魅力は相変わらずです。前作「Nothing」が明るい劇薬ならば、この作品は習慣性の強い劇薬と言えるでしょう。ただMeshuggahに初めて臨む人は、「Destroy Erase Improve」あたりから入るほうが無難かも。そんな意味で★は１つ減点で４つ。
