サイド・プロジェクトは常に大ヒットするとは限らない。そのプロジェクトが、マンガのキャラクターがフロントマンを務める奇妙なビジュアル集団ならなおさら。だが、イラストレーターのジェイミー・ヒューレットとブラーのフロントマン、デーモン・アルバーンの創作品だったゴリラズによるセルフ・タイトルの1stは、プラチナ・アルバムとなり、世界中を驚かせるヒットとなった。当然、ゴリラズの2ndに寄せられる期待も大きくなったが、『Demon Days』は実際のところ、前作を上回るほどの出来となった。プロデューサーのダン・“ジ・オートメイター”・ナカムラに代わり、アルバーン、別名2DがDJデンジャー・マウス（ビートルズとジェイZを不法にミックスした悪名高い『Grey Album』の製作者）と組んで製作を開始、また、ゲスト陣も賑やかに参加している。アルバーンは『Demon Days』を、よりダークだがCD全体を通じていかれたダンス・パーティのヴァイブがあると表現している。たとえば、どんよりとしたトーンにも関わらず、「Kids with Guns」は決めのベース・ラインが効果的であるし、キャッチーな1stシングル「Feel Good Inc」はデ・ラ・ソウルの素晴らしい貢献で豊かに仕上がっている。
