このアルバム意外と評価が低いのが気になりますが、こんな抜群なメロディを聴かす作品、近年そうそうないと思いますよ。売れっ子のリックルービンをプロデュースにむかえたことにより、聴衆に求められる普遍的なweezerの音がここにあります。とは言っても、３曲目のようなニューウェーブ色も出しつつしっかり冒険もしています。評価が低いのは、ミドルテンポの曲が多いからかなという気もしますが、良質なメロディーを聴かす素晴らしい作品です。過去の名盤と比べても作品の質は全然劣っておらず、プロダクションは過去最高です。入門用としてもお薦めします。

weezerのDVDを観た人は薄々わかると思いますが、
1st2ndとそれ以降では、weezerそのものの質が違うのです。


それはやはり現RentalsのMatt Sharpさんが
2ndの時点でいなくなったことが大きく、
何故ならweezerが1st2ndのころに持っていた
ある種の柔らかさというか優しさは、
ほとんどMatt Sharpさんによるものだったからです。

他のレビューの方も同じようなことを書かれていましたが、
僕は1st2nd好きの人は、Rentalsを聴いた方がいいと思います。
3rdからは完全にリヴァースさん一人の世界なので。
(僕は3rdが1stと同じタイトルなのも
そういう意味だと思っています。)


で、このアルバム。
僕は平成生まれということもあって、
リアルタイムのアルバムはマラドロワなのですが、
そんな僕でさえこのアルバムには不安がつきまとっていました。
マラドロワは良い意味でも悪い意味でも投げやりなアルバムだったので…


しかしいざ買って聴いてみると、
優しさや穏やかさは一切ないものの、
曲自体は粒ぞろいで、なかなか楽しめました。
一回聴いて飽きた人は二回聴くといいでしょう。


またリヴァースさんの3rdから続くメタル志向や、
マラドロワからのラップ志向も今作は引き継いでいて、
それをより作り込んでいるところは好感が持てました。
僕はマラドロワが好きですが、さすがに2枚もいらないので。


まぁとにかく、ややこしい立ち位置ながら、
健闘しているアルバムだということですね。

ブルーがとても好きでした、Pinkerton,Green...アルバム毎に下がるクオリティでも期待して買い続けていましたがもうこのバンド終わりだなと思っていたのが本心です。今回のアルバムは興味０で試聴したのですが、本当にびっくりしました。良すぎです。ブルーも超えてます。捨曲が見つかりません。リバースを見直しました。次はどうなるか？
