3年ぶり3枚目となるアルバム。プロデューサーは数々のロック・アルバムを手がけてきたリック・ルービン。

   メジャー3枚目のアルバム（通算4作目）。9人が一丸となって襲いくるエクストリームなラウド・ロックはさらにエスカレートしている。デビュー当時の衝撃が薄れた一方で、演奏力・作曲力がアップ。爆裂度はそのまま、音楽としての完成度を高めた作風のおかげで、やや聴きやすさも強調された。スローな1曲目「プレリュード3.0」には驚かされるが、その後は破壊力100％のスリップノット節全開だ。

   メンバーたちがストーン・サワー、マーダードールズなどの別プロジェクトでつちかったメロディアスな側面もアコースティック曲「サークル」、二部構成の「ヴァーミリオン」などで効果的に用いられており、フォロワーを寄せつけない無敵のラウド・ロック巨編に仕上がっている。リック・ルービンのプロデュースも、彼らの生の魅力を見事に捕らえている。（山崎智之）

全体的にスリップノットを大衆化させるような、「らしさ」を切り離したアルバム。新境地開拓なのか、落ち着いた楽曲が多い（比較的
「スリップノット」「アイオワ」の方がより、荒涼かつ狡猾な音をぶつけてくれます（良い意味で

サードから聴くような人は少ないと思いますが、初めて聴き始めるには持って来いのアルバムだと思います。

間違いなくSLIPKNOT以外の何物でも無いアルバムなんだけど、コリィのヴォーカルが大分優しくなったように感じるし、1.で「あれっ？」って思った。
完全にぶっ飛んだ歌詞も健在なんだけど、前作ＩＯＷＡの真っ黒な世界から若干ＰＯＰで聴きやすくなったかも。
でもＩＯＷＡと比べると自分は好きな曲が少ない。

それでも4.のデュアリティは自分が聴いたSLIPKNOTの曲で最もノリが良くて、近所迷惑ということも忘れボリュームを上げちゃいます。
それに本当にSLIPKNOTらしい2.、3.やゆっくり聴かせるヴォーカルと激しいドラムが合体した8.が本当にかっこいい。

非常にバラエティに富む楽曲が揃っているアルバムで、前作に比べてかなり聴きやすく仕上がってます。
激しい曲は相変わらずヘヴィで攻撃的でありながら、メロディアスなバラードは深みのあるかっこいい仕上がりとなっており、激しい曲とメロディアスな曲のバランスが非常に良い構成となっています。
SLIPKNOTがバラードを演奏することに対して批判的な意見もあるようですけど、バラードがあるからこそ激しい曲が生きてくる部分もあると思います。この『VOL:3：(THE SUBLIMINAL VERSES）』においては、いいバランスでバラードが配置され、締まったアルバムになっていると思います。
1枚通して聴いても疲れないアルバムです。DVD(PV)も付いているので、SLIPKNOT初心者には一番お勧めなアルバム。
