出た。チャックレイニー名義のアルバムだ。
パーソネルはバーナードパーディー、リチャードティー、コーネルデュプリー、エリックゲイルなど馴染み深いメンバー。
買うときに「どうせ失敗するだろうな。自慰行為に近い音楽を聴かされるんだろうな。サイドマンがリーダーになってイイことなんて滅多にないかんな」とか思いつつレジに持ってった。
期待を持たずに、先入観をなるたけ排して聴けたからなのか、
コレはとても素晴らしいアルバムですよ！
技術やセンス、グルーブ感が素晴らしいことは他のサイドマンで入っている音源で重々承知していたつもりなのだが、チャックレイニーの凶暴さ、いや獣のような獰猛さが随所に見れるのはこのアルバムの醍醐味です。
イチバン深い（低い）とこでボトムを支えていたと思えば、お得意の高音部でのスライドやダブルストップでトゥーントゥーンします。
ピーターガンのテーマ、最後の曲なんですが、
ジャコパスと同レベルの迫力だと言ってもボクは恥ずかしくないです！

先に記したボクとおんなじような偏見で買い渋っている方！イイっすよ！

職人という表現が似合うプレーヤーは本当にカッコいいと思います。単に圧倒的な技術（質、量とも）を持っているという意味からすると、C.レイニー（b）以上のそれを持つ人を探すのは難しくないでしょう。また、圧倒的なセッション量という面でもそうかも知れません。
しかし、その両極だけに位置していては職人ではないのでは？と思います。双方の条件を満たしつつ、天性のフィーリングや信頼といった点についても兼ね備えてこそ、初めて”職人”という響きの似合うプレーヤーが出現するのだと思います。
ですので、ジャケットに記載されている”誰々の曲を聴いたことがあれば、C.レイニーを知っているはず”云々という文句は（私の場合）どうでもいい売りコピーとしか映りません。
そんな事より、普段は耳にも留めない？ベースという楽器、その音を、ここに収められた楽曲からじっくりと聴き取って頂きたいと思うわけです。
ソロアルバム（本作は'71年録音）とは言え、当の本人は自らにスポットライトが当たる事など爪の先ほども望んではないのでは？と（私は勝手に）思っていますが、どうでしょうね(^^;

再発はうれしいのですが、以前の物に有ったボーナストラックが全て無く成ってしまったのが残念です。4曲の為に4倍以上の金額出す勇気は無いですが、このオリジナル9曲でも充分満足出来る出来です。
