ゲストにジェフ･バクスター､メンフィス･ホーンを迎えてより立体的に制作された通算４作目｡「ブラック・ウォーター」収録（1974年作品）
【プロフィール】
トム・ジョンストン(vo,g)が中心となり1970年米国カリフォルニアで結成。マリファナのスラングである“ドゥービーから名前をとってドゥービー・ブラザーズとし、71年にアルバム『ドゥービー・ブラザーズ・ファースト』でデビュー。2作目の『トゥールーズ・ストリート』に収録の「リッスン・トゥ・ザ・ミュージック」といった爽快でポップなサウンドが人気を集め、イーグルスと並ぶ米西海岸を代表するロック・バンドとなった。メンバーの入れ替わりが激しいことも有名で、75年にはフロントマンのジョンストンが病気のため第一線から退き、代わりにスティーリー・ダンなどで活躍していたマイケル・マクドナルドが加入。マクドナルドの都会的な趣向が生かされ、ジャズやR&Bを取り入れた都会的なサウンドにシフト、その結果78年の『ミニット・バイ・ミニット』の大ヒットが生まれた。82年に解散したが、89年に再結成、現在も活発に活動している。

ドゥービーの４th『ドゥービー天国』。
代表作である３rd『キャプテン・アンド・ミー』と５th『スタンピード』に挟まれて影に隠れてしまっている印象ですが、紛れもない名盤です。

本作の特徴としては、“アルバム通しての完成度の高さ”があげられます。
「ブラック・ウォーター」、「お望みのまま」、「砂浜の娘」など、全体的にパット・シモンズの色がわりと濃く出ているため、
音の澄み切った落ち着いた雰囲気の曲が多く、１曲目の「君に捧げし歌」からラストのインスト曲「フライング・クラウド」まで、流れが絶妙です。
一見地味な印象を受けますが、聴けば聴くほど味の出る深い作品です。

『トゥールーズ・ストリート』のタイトル曲や、『キャプテン〜』の「クリア・アズ・ザ・ドライヴン・スノー」が好きな方は特に気に入ると思います。
また、ギターバトルが最高にカッコイイ、本作のハイライトともいえる「ロード・エンジェル」もファンなら見逃せません。
（個人的には「アナザー・パーク」がドゥービーの曲の中でベスト３に入るくらい大好きです。）

一人でも多くの人に聴いてもらいたい隠れた名盤です。

ギターサウンド好きなら、ロード・エンジェルは一丁の価値ありと思います。なんといってもブラック・ウォーターに注目が集まってしまう、
そういう意味では不運なアルバムか？
