第３期DPの代表作「Burn」のリマスター・リミックス盤です。1曲目から8曲目の「"A"200」までがオリジナル音源で、9曲目から13曲目が今回、ボーナストラックとして追加されたものです。このアルバムを買う人は恐らくオリジナル盤をそれこそ聴き倒した人、買い直しの人が大半だと思います。

＜お得１＞
9曲目の「Coronarias Redig」という曲をご存知の方は少数派だと思います。この曲は「Might Just Take Your Life」がシングルカットされた時の「Ｂ面」に収録された曲です。アルバム未収録だった地味な曲ですが、ここで初めて日の目を見ることができました。私は初めて聴きましたが、確かにＢ面って感じですね。地味です。

＜お得２＞
10曲目から13曲目の4曲は今回新たにデジタルリマスターされた音源です。格段に音質が向上しているのは、１曲目から8曲目のオリジナル音源と比較すれば一目瞭然です。恐らくマスターテープを忠実に再現したと思われ、例えば「Burn」でジョン・ロードのオルガンがオリジナルにはない音を出していたり、エンディングが尻切れになっていたりします。恐らくは未加工の音源ということで、逆にそれが生々しいリアリティー感を伝えてくれます。

こんなところでしょうか。ＤＰを初めて聴く人にとっては、オリジナルとリマスターとの違いといっても「何のこと？」という感じかも知れません。でも、「リアルタイムで聴き倒したよ」という人にとっては、色々な発見があるはずです。

イアンギランとロジャーグローバーがバンドを抜け、替わりにデヴィッドカヴァーデルとグレンヒューズが参加した第三期の一枚目のアルバムです。 タイトルナンバーはいかにもパープルといった感じの曲なのですが、それ以外の曲はギラン時代からは考えられないような感じの曲ばかりです。ではそれが駄目かというと、決してそんなことはありません。むしろ新しい魅力を満載したアルバムと言えるのです。ミストゥリーテッドはレインボーでもプレイしているほどのリッチーのお気に入りの曲ですが、同様にファンの間でもとても人気のある曲です。このアルバムは、インロック、マシンヘッドと並ぶ三大傑作と私は考えておりますが、最大のポイントはやはりグレンヒューズの存在でしょう。新加入の二人でリードヴォーカルを分けあったり、グレンがコーラスをつけたりと大活躍している。もちろんファンキーなベースワークも見逃せません。ギラン時代とは毛色が違うサウンドですが、HR/HMの傑作であることは間違いありませんので、ぜひ聴いてみてください。

デヴィッド・カヴァデールとグレン・ヒューズ
がツインヴォーカルという、今考えると凄すぎる
構成の第三期1枚目のアルバム。
二人のヴォーカルを堪能したいのであれば次作の
「ストームブリンガー」の方をお勧めしたいが、
今作品の凄いところが、イアン・ペイスのドラム
です。1曲目「BURN」から前編ドラムソロのような
凄まじいドラムが聞けます。
結構ファンキーな曲も多い作品ですが、
それを支えているのはイアン・ペイスの手数の多い
ドラミングでしょう。
リッチーのギターは［「BURN」と「MISTREATED」しか
やる気が無かった。］らしいけど、その他の曲の
何気ないフレーズもかっこいい。さすがとしか言いようが無い。
