   ボビー・ヴァレンティノはリュダクリスのレーベル、ディスタービング・ザ・ピースと初めて契約したアーティスト。R・ケリー（バリー・ホワイトの不在を埋めたルーサー・ヴァンドロスの不在を埋めていた）の長い不在でR&Bにぽっかり空いた、なめらかで女心を惑わすヴォーカルを継承しようとしている。ヴォーカルに熱と、ここに名前の挙がったアーティストがそろって兼ね備えていた一瞬にして人を引きつける力は欠けているが、デビュー作としてはまずまずで、特に女心のファンタジーに入りこもうとする試みに挑戦している。

   曲のタイトルがすべてを言い表している（ずうずうしいと思う人もいるだろうか）。「Lights Down Low」（灯りを落として）、「Come Touch Me」（俺に触って）「One Girl To Love」（俺にはお前だけ）。テーマは置いておくとして、ヴァレンティノは超一級とはいわずとも突き抜けるような天性の声を張りあげており、R&Bチャート入りは充分に見込めるだろう。スティーヴィー・ワンダーの陰で「I'll Forgive You」を泳ぎ、ワイナンズの影響を受けた「Love Dream」をさまよい、オールドスクールのクーリオ式のラップで、「Give Me A Chance」を盛りあげている。「Gangsta Love」では“コークのボトルのような身体/淫らになりたがっている”と言う歌詞で、エロチックな歌を真綿に包み、おもしろおかしい要素を加えている。（Tammy La Gorce, Amazon.com）

なぜ２年間もこのアルバムを放っておいたのか。
キッズ・コーラス・グループが流行していた90年代、実力派プロデューサーチーム、オーガナイズド・ノイズのバックアップでアルバム"MISTA"をリリースした同名グループのメンバーが、Ludacrisのレーベルからソロデビューするという事だったが、正直当時Ludacris＋R&Bという方程式に対して食わず嫌いをしていました。
今回機会があり聞いてみると、なかなかどうして、メロウで美しいR&Bアルバムでした。
メロウで切ないメロディが印象的な【2 Slow Down】で引き込まれ、続けてトラックが幻想的でどこか和風(？)な雰囲気の【3 Give Me A Chance】これにはLudacrisが参加しているのですが、Valentinoの美声を邪魔する事なく、曲を上手く引き締めている感じで、これまた最高の仕上がりです。そして、幻想的なトラックとギターの絡みが美しいInterludeを挟んで、続く【6 Tell Me】個人的にはこれにやられました。宮廷音楽を思わせる(？)ヴァイオリンのループが美しくも物悲しい雰囲気を醸し出し、そこに感情を乗せたValentinoの歌声が加わって、聴き手を魅了します。
全体的にミディアムスローなバラッドが多いですが、ダラダラとただ悲しいトラックじゃないので、最後まで間延びせず聴けます。
さわやかで、切なくて、それぞれのトラックに雰囲気のある素晴らしいアルバムでした。

　あれから約10年。このアルバムを聴いて改めて歳月の流れを痛感した。90年代中盤のアトランタ勢台頭の中心的存在であり，New Classic Soul等のムーブメントにも多大な影響を与えたオーガナイズド・ソウル。その庇護を受けてデビューした4人組MISTA。彼らのデビュー･アルバムはティーンネイジ・ヴォーカルグループとは思えないほど完成度の高いアルバムだったが，ヴォーカルグループ全盛という当時の状況の中では生き残ることは難しく，以後，音沙汰はなくなった。
　そのMISTAの最年長メンバー（当時18歳）がボビー・ヴァレンティノ（当時はボビー･ウィルソンと名乗っていた）である。ソロ・デビューに至るまでの苦労は知る由もないが，ただ，このアルバムを聴いてよくぞカムバックしたと感激した。全体的にシンプルなサウンド構成だが，それはボビーのヴォーカルを際立たせるために企図したものだろう。その狙いは見事に当たっていて，甘く切なくしなやかなテナーが魅力的なヴォーカル・アルバムだ。
　流麗で夢見心地な「Slow Down」，哀感を帯びたヴァイオリンをループさせたウェットな「Tell Me」，New Editionの「Can You Stand The Rain」を彷彿させる白昼夢のようにメロウな「I’ll For Give You」と素晴らしいバラードが続く。中でもアコースティック・ギターとピアノによる美しくも切ないメロディーが印象的な「Want You To Know Me」，往年のNew EditionやTroopあたりがやりそうな美しくも壮大なスケールの「One Girl To Love」でのエモーショナルなヴォーカルは絶品。シンプルだが，内省的で感傷的に歌われるアウトロ「Thank You Lord」もいい。
　2005年のＲ＆Ｂアルバムの中で10本の指に入るであろう傑作。そして，何よりも今度こそはＲ＆Ｂシーンに残って２作目以降も聴かせて欲しい。そう思わせる力作だ。

他の人のレビューを見たり、簡単に試聴した感じではスローな同じような曲ばかり入っているようで、購入するのに若干検討の余地がありました、実際に。但し買って一通り聞いてみましたが、なかなかどうして声もよく、歌も旨く、ブライアンマックナイト以降のメロウなUSソウルを基盤に、洗練された甘い歌の数々がとっても心地よいです。たしかに最近のこの手のサウンドはオリジナルティーに欠け、どの曲も同じように聞こえてしまう意見に「NO」とは言えない私ですが、本作はファーストシングル「スロウダウン」はじめ、究極のナイトミュージックでいっぱいの好アルバムに仕上がっています。
