私ごときが今更お勧めするのも何だな、と躊躇するほどの歴史的名作。

確かに久保田麻琴と夕焼け楽団は、知る人ぞ知る、という存在ではあろうが、７５年録音にしてすでに、世界各地の魅力的な大衆音楽の要素を愛情を持って大胆に配合した複眼的な作品を作り上げていることには脱帽する。

細野春臣と久保田麻琴のプロデュースのもとハワイで録音された本作の凄さは、その音楽的チャンプルーの試みが、古臭さを感じさせない洗練とレイドバックした心地よい雰囲気を備えていることで、今でも聞くに耐えて余りあることだ。個人的にも、特に夏には欠かせないアイテムとなっている。

何といっても喜納昌吉の名を全国的なものにした＃５のカバーが有名だろうが、ロマンティックなマリアッチ調の＃９が私的ベストトラックだ。
