いずれもキャラの立っている音楽界の重鎮二人がレイ・チャールズに捧げたレイのカヴァー集。2年前、カーティス・メイフィールドのカヴァー集を作っている二人だけに息がぴったりで、余裕を感じる。房之助は「バイ・バイ、ラヴ」で豪快に弾け、絞り出すように歌うタイトル曲ではブルース・シンガーとしての持ち味を存分に発揮。かつてレイと共演したことのあるポンタは「アンチェイン・マイ・ハート」をはじめとする各曲で、ずっしりとしたビートを叩き出す。PONTA BOXの新メンバーを中心としたバンドの演奏も快調。 (浅羽晃) --- 2005年05月号

近藤房之助とＰＯＮＴＡのコラボレーション第２弾。
前作はカーティスメイフィールドのトリビュートだったが、今回はレイチャールズ。訃報は衝撃的でした。
ポンタ氏は「レイと共演出来たことは自分にとって誇りだ」と言ってるが、これを聴けばそれがよく分かる。
彼と彼の音楽に対して、深い愛と敬意を感じる好盤です。
