モーツァルトの音楽は演奏家を試す試金石のようなところがある。めまぐるしい転調や天馬のごときメロディー、天才の早書きによる天性の即興など凡人では一筋縄でいかない音楽だからだ。普通に演奏すれば退屈になり、奇を衒って工夫を試みれば曲の構成美を傷つけてしまう。この難題をクリアするためにはモーツァルトのような天才の感性で接するか、長年の知識と経験を生かした風格のある匠の技で勝負するしかない。クーベリックのこのCDは後者の模範ともいうべき演奏だ。テンポは変化せず、可愛がりながら見守るような父性溢れた演奏で、はじめて聴くときは凡庸にしか聞こえないのに、繰り返し聴くことで指揮者の造詣の明るさが肌に感じられるようになる。ベーム/ベルリンフィルの演奏も堂々とした名演だが、クーベリックには父性から湧き出る温かみを感じることが出来る。クーベリックは同時期にハフナー以降の６曲の交響曲を録音したが、プラハ、３９、４０番は掛け値なしの名演だ。ちなみにレコード芸術の読者参加企画リーダーズチョイスで見事このプラハが１位に選出されている。

ベームやワルターもいいんだけど、個人的には
クーベリックやケルテスといったチェコ、ハンガリー出身
の指揮者、モーツァルトを振ると格別の味わいが
あるとおもう。
やっぱりオーストリー文化圏の風土。民族的な
土壌があるのかな？？？

とにかく、純粋に音楽に耳を済ませてもらいたい。
ほんとに噛めば噛むほど、味わいがでてくる
するめかなんかみたいにちょっと枯れてて
ほんと、いいんだから。
