本作はテレサの代表曲を日本語と中国語両方で鑑賞することが出来るお得な作品。美空ひばり級のとてつもない歌手だったことを改めて認識することができる。そして本作の価値をさらに高めているのが、テレサが歌姫としての存在を超え、平和と民主を求めるアイコンとして歴史に不滅の足跡を残した、１９８９年６月４日天安門事件直前に香港で開かれた民主化支援コンサートで歌った我的家在山的那一辺(私の家は山の向こう)(1989年5月27日 香港ハッピーヴァレー競馬場での音源)。ピアノをバックに静かに始まるこれぞ絶唱。これを聴かずしてテレサを、そしてアジア現代史を語れようか。有田芳生氏の同名の単行本付属のＣＤでは聴けた、テレサがその生涯で一度だけ聴衆を前にして歌ったこの曲をまだ耳にしていない文庫本の読者等には、本作は必聴の作品です。

テレサ・テンのように「アジアの歌姫」と評価される歌手を日本での活動だけで見てしまうと過小評価になると思います。

この２枚組のアルバムのラストに収録されている「我的家在山的那一辺(私の家は山の向こう)」は、1989年5月27日の香港ハッピー・ヴァレー競馬場でのライヴ音源です。あの天安門事件直前のテレサの感情と行動を如実に感じることができる歴史的な歌声がこれです。感情のほとばしりが伝わる感動的な歌唱でした。
格調高く歌い上げる台湾出身のテレサにとって、父母の祖国中国への思いは複雑だったと思います。なおリーフレットには発音と意味も掲載されています。

有名な「夜來香」や「何日君再來」のような中国語の伸びのある歌唱を聴くと、アジアの人々が、テレサに感じていた熱い思いが良く伝わってきます。中国語での「償還(つぐない)」も興味深く聴きました。
「時の流れに身をまかせ」「つぐない」は名曲ですね。秘めた感情をしっとりと丁寧に歌い上げるその歌声は、様々な世代や性別を超えて愛されてきました。

「別れの予感」は、悲しい曲なのにどこか明るさを感じさせる不思議な曲に仕上がっています。可愛くて素直な気持ちを表わした女性の歌です。しっとりと情緒的で、どこか哀しげに歌えるのはテレサしかいないと思います。

テレサ・テンといえば、「少し前まで活躍していた歌謡曲の歌手」という印象しかなかったのですが、有田芳生さんの「私の家は山の向こう―テレサ・テン十年目の真実 」を読んでこのCDに興味を持ちました。耳に馴染みのある日本語ヒット曲も今聞きなおすと実に良いものですが、本当の実力は中国語の歌で発揮されているように感じました。最後のトラックはもう、凄いとしか言えない。米原万里さんが身震いしたわけです。信念に支えられた力強さを、歌を壊すぎりぎりのところで潜めているのが流石、名歌手の意地ですね。これ以上の演奏はできなかったのではないかとすら思います。
