前作「Make up the brakedown」がめちゃくちゃ好きだったんだけど、今作は飽きんの早いです。なぜか後半４曲ぐらいに辿り着く頃には退屈しちゃってます。前作の人を喰ったような展開、勢いが少なく、でもまだまだこれからには期待できるバンドなので個人的に次回作に期待して待ってたいと思います。そうは言っても今いるバンドではStrokesなんかの何倍もカッコいいバンドだしね！

１stアルバム『Make Up the Breakdown』を聴いて一発でファンに
なりました。２ndアルバムが出るということで、かなり期待して
発売即購入したのですが、最初の印象は「なんか普通だな・・・」。

ところが半年、何度も聴いている間に、１stとは異なる
「微妙なフック」に引っ掛けられ、やがてメロディが耳に
ついて離れなくなり、今では完全に中毒に陥っています。

長く聴いて楽しめるアルバムだと思います。

1stから二年半という、比較的長いインターバルを置いて制作されたHot Hot Heatの2ndアルバムです。

その間に長いツアーに出ていた影響からか、勢いで押し切った前作に比べて、よりバンドとしての幅が広がった印象があります。
ストレートなR&RのTr.-8や、The Cureの様なTr.-10は、これまでありそうで無かったアプローチだと思います。
ただ、一部の曲ではそういった新しい試みが、あまりうまくいっていない部分も見受けられる気がしますが・・・

と言ってもTr.-2,3,5,9あたりは、前作の流れを組んだ（それも極上の）ポップ・ナンバーを鳴らしてくれています。
特に1stシングルでもある「Goodnight Goodnight」は、個人的に今年最もインパクトを受けた曲の１つです。

思うに今作は、バンドとしての変化を模索しながら作られた「過渡期」の作品だと思います。
にも関わらず、こういった「ファンから求められるもの」にきっちり応えた作品も作れるあたり、ただ者ではありません。
次のアルバムは、もしかしたらとんでもない大傑作が来るのでは!?と期待を抱かせるに足る内容となっています。

蛇足ですが、日本での扱い低いですよねー、このバンド。
音楽メディアの方々には、もっとしっかり取り上げて欲しいものです。
そうしないと、なかなかライブも満足に観る機会がなくなってしまいかねないので・・・（今年の来日も東京で１日だけ・・・）
