マザー・グース「パノラマ・ハウス」には、特別な思い入れがあります。はまってしまったアルバムの一つです。当時、バッファロー・スプリングフィールドやクロスビー、スティルス、ナッシュ＆ヤングなどに代表されるウエスト・コースト・ロックが好きだったので、マザー・グースの新鮮なメロディー・ラインや、ハーモニー、オシャレな感覚にたちまち引き込まれてしまいました。中でも、「SUNRISE GIRL」の巧みなイントロとイメージ、「マリン・ブルー」と「COOL」は、元々男と女の近づいても近づけない微妙な関係を歌っているのに、とてもスタイリッシュでシャレた曲に仕上がっています。
夏が近づいてくると、日常の様々なシーンの中でこのマザーグースの歌が、心に響いて離れません。自分にとっては、生涯心に残るアルバムでもあります。

私の愛聴するラジオ番組で、このアルバム６曲目の「ＣＯＯＬ」が
流れたとき、心を鷲掴みにされた気がした。タイトルにも書いた通り、
詞にも曲にも懐メロでないセンスの良さを感じたのだ。

私はリアルタイムのファンではないから、このグループに対する特別な
思い入れはないし、アルバム収録曲全曲を手放しでほめるつもりもない。
しかし２００６年に初めて聴いてなお、違和感を感じずに親しめる曲が
何曲も収められているというのは、ある意味凄いことだと思う。

このＣＤを聴いて私と同じ感想を持って頂ける方は少なくないはずだ。
