2年ぶりの新作は、いかにもメイシオらしいファンクの道徳に立ち返ったうえ、“学校ネタ”の洒落も冴えた逸品。アルバム・タイトルはもちろんのこと、「ベイシック・ファンク:101」や「アーツ・アンド・クラフツ」などの曲名は学校と授業の見立て。それでそう言うに十分な示しを付けた。ホレス・シルヴァーなら『ブルースに処方箋』にたとえていいかもしれない。そのせいか、新旧様々な仲間が集ってわいわいと。『モ・ルーツ』以降のファンク魂を炸裂させながらサム・クックをカヴァーする一方、ストリングス入りのオリジナル・バラード(5)にサックスの歌い手として不退転の思いを込める。年来のファンは快哉の叫びが止まらなくなるだろう。聞けばここ最近のメイシオは、プリンスのサポートで大忙しだったそう。学校ネタのヒントもそこからやってきたらしいが、それでかえって内面の目覚めを呼び込むとは、さすが百戦錬磨のベテランだ。後半に連続する3曲の表情に、数々の荒波を乗り越えてきた体験が見える。 (成田正) --- 2005年04月号

金太郎飴の如く、どこをどう切ってもメイシオFUNKが炸裂してます。もちろんイイ意味で。
メンバーは前作、前々作あたりとほぼ変わらず。よっぽど彼から信頼されているのでしょう。

CDを再生した瞬間にヤラれます。試合開始のゴングが鳴った瞬間にKOされる感じ。
収録されてるカバー、ABCやWhat a wonderful worldもメイシオ流儀でかなりFUNKYに仕上がってます。

メイシオファンなら当然買い。メイシオを聴いてみようかなって人も当然買いです。メイシオって誰？って人も買いです。要するに皆さん買いですよ、このCDは。

今回のアルバムのコンセプトはメイシオのファンク講座！そのコンセプトの通り、曲の目的が分かりやすい。ファンクをここまでいえるのはメイシオくらい！彼だからこそファンクのすばらしさを伝えることができる。すばらしい！！

久々に疾走ファンク快感ですたい。これで配達とかしよったら配達先ば、飛び抜かすばいやん。ワンパターンかもしれんけど誰にでん真似できんメイシオ節はよか、兎に角こりゃ楽しかよぉ！！
