dolphyのfive spotのライブは，４つのアルバムに分けられて発売されていますが，何れも素晴らしい内容で，ジャズ史上のベストの一つと思っています．僕は，like someone in loveの入っているこのアルバムはvol 1に負けないと思います．

ブッカー・リトル、エリック・ドルフィ、マル・ウォルドロンといずれも逝ってしまいこのアルバムもはるかかなたの夢のようだが、この熱気は永遠のモニュメントとなっていまだに胸を打つ。リトルのやや上ずった感のあるトランペットは技術云々でなく神がかった響きだし、ドルフィのアルトのうねりの情念とリリカルでスタティックなフルートはジキル博士とハイド氏のような二面性を見せる。マルの時にモールス信号のようなピアノ、リチャード・デイビスの重厚なベースとどれをとっても激しく迫ってくる。こんな演奏をしているとやはり長生きできないのか、それとも葉鶏頭のように季節に咲き誇るはかない激しさのなせるわざなのか。いずれにしてもここには一瞬に賭けた青春のエネルギーが凝縮されている。
