ラファロ亡き後のムーンビームスセッションからスインギーなのを集めました、ってーのがこのアルバムの最もシンプルな説明。そんなわけであたしゃ、聴いてみるまで枯葉とかマイルストーンズみたいのばっかかな、と思って敬遠していたのだが、実体はさにあらず。まったりしきったムーンビームスに比べ、ポールモチアンのＳ＆Ｇ59番街風ブラシ（変なたとえだがわかる人にはわかる？）がより冴えまくり、Walking UpやShow-Type Tuneのようなノリノリの曲もあるにはあるが、全体にはリラックスした気持ちのいいスイング感で満たされています。ラファロの頃、まるでせっつかれるような緊張感のあったトリオ・苦渋に満ちた気弱そうな銀行員エヴァンスも悪くないですが、こんな「まあいいじゃん、堅いことはさあ」とでもいいたげな大人のエヴァンスも実に棄てがたいものがあります。そんなムードを作り出しているのは新ベーシストのチャックイスラエルに寄るところが大きいのでは？例えばIn Your Own Sweet Wayのベースソロを聴くとよくわかるのですが、こんな時、ラファロ、ゴメス、ジョンソンといった人たちはここぞとばかりに高音でヒュンヒュンいわすでしょう？イスラエルはそんな見せ場でも「あっしゃベースですけん」とばかりにおとなしくボンボンして、しかし堅実です。その堅実さがエヴァンスのピアノをより際だたせているように思うのですがどうでしょう？この感じは、そうクィンテセンスでエヴァンスと共演するレイブラウンに近い。思えばレイブラウンも弾きまくりピーターソンを影で支えた苦労人でした。そりゃ派手じゃないけど、なんかエヴァンスも気持ちよく弾かされてるなーという感じです。

5.0 out of 5 stars 今更説明不要の「ﾑｰﾝﾋﾞｰﾑｽ」と対をなす名作, 2005/4/3
ｽｺｯﾄﾗﾌｧﾛを失った後、ﾁｬｯｸｲｽﾗｴﾙを迎えて再ｽﾀｰﾄを切ったﾄﾘｵの記録。
ｽﾛｰﾅﾝﾊﾞｰ中心の「ﾑｰﾝﾋﾞｰﾑｽ」に対しこちらはﾃﾝﾎﾟのある曲が中心。
凡百のｺﾒﾝﾄなど書くに及ばないが、こういう作品がこの価格で聴ける
という幸福感を味わって頂きたい。「ﾑｰﾝﾋﾞｰﾑｽ」は夜の定番だが
購入以来、出勤前の程良い緊張感を醸成する早朝のBGMと化している。

名盤「ワルツ・フォー・デビィー」で共演した盟友スコット・ラファロを事故で失って、暫くは一線から遠ざかっていたビル・エバンス。その彼が久しぶりに録音したのは、硬派なファンからは「女の腐ったようなアルバム・・・」と酷評されたアルバム「ムーン・ビームス」。これはそのムーンビームス録音と同日に演奏した曲から、比較的アップテンポなナンバーを集めたものである。ドラムには盟友ポール・モチアンを据えビルの心の琴線に絶妙に応えながらリズムを刻む。このふたりのインタープレイが聴きどころである。
