このＣＤには、ホルスト、ヴォーン=ウィリアムズ、グレインジャーの、イギリス民謡を元にして書かれた吹奏楽曲が収録されています。選曲と演奏の面では文句なしです。楽曲のうち特に３つの組曲はイギリス民謡をふんだんに取り入れた贅沢な作品で、特有の郷愁感あふれる旋律がたまりません。指揮者のフェネルといえば、吹奏楽にこの人ありといわれる（この人しかいないように思われる）人物です。

しかし、録音の面で大いに問題があります。ジャケットには１９５９年のステレオ録音と記されているのですが、どう考えてもモノラル録音のようにしか聞こえません。実際には１９５５年ごろのモノラル録音で、録音日時を偽載した擬似ステレオ盤もが存在したとか。モノラルのためどうしても室内楽的な響きにとどまらざるを得ませんが、収録曲は元々民謡を軍楽隊のレパートリーとして編曲した楽曲ですので、大した問題ではないと思います。ノイズこそあれ録音年代のことを考えると、楽器の響きをここまで正確に捉えきっているのは奇蹟といえます。
