収録曲に不満が残る。今回が初出の音源がないので、熱心なファンに対しての訴求力は弱く
また、はじめてソウルセットの音楽に触れようとする人たちに対して、彼らの魅力を完全に伝えきる選曲か？と
言えばそういうわけでもない。特にアンセムたる「Jr.」が収録されていないのは疑問だ。
割り切って完全なシングル集にしてしまうか、B面やレア・トラックを網羅した
アナザーサイド・ベストの方が切り口としては良かったのではないかと思える。

とはいえ、「JIVE MY REVOLVER」「27 TO 28」あたりのモラトリアム感(誉め言葉)は
今でも有効だし(むしろ現代の世相を反映して当時より実効力を増しているようにすら思える)
「ヤード」「夜明け前」などといった代表曲の輝きは今でも喪われていない。

日本のHIP-HOPというと、ともするとギャングスター・ラップ的なものか、もしくはスチャダラパーからRIP SLYME、
KICK THE CAN CREWなどに繋がるポップ色を強くしたパーティー・ミュージックのどちらかで括られがちだが
ソウルセットというグループはそのどちらでもない孤高であり極北の位置にある。
BIKKEの文学性の響きを湛えたポエトリー・リーディング、渡辺俊美の喉とギターから発せられる芳醇なメロディ、
川辺ヒロシの膨大な音楽知識と愛情に支えられたバックトラックが絡みあって織りなすサウンドスケープは
今もって代替が効かない唯一無二のものであり、まさしく「個性」と呼ぶべきものだ。

最近面白い/新しい音楽がないと思っている若年層にこそお勧めしたいアルバム。

正直、彼らにベスト版は似合わないと思っていましたが、ブックレットが28ｐのボリュームということで、惹かれてしまいました。そこには彼らの通ってきた軌跡が、彼らに影響を与えた音楽人、芸術人にまで触れて記されており、読み物としても充実していました。メンバーの名言(珍言？)も散りばめられており、にやりとさせられます。選曲に関しては、ヒット曲から隠れた名曲まで網羅されています。というか、彼らの良さは本当に１曲１曲に詰まっており、どの曲が自分に合うかというだけなので、好みの問題だと思います。先にベスト版が似合わないと書いたように、自分で選曲しても74分には収まらないと思うし・・・。入手困難なバージョンが多く、コレクターズアイテムとしての価値もあると思います。パッケージもこだわりがあっていいです。なお、昨年の復活シングルはインディーズでしたが、このベスト版と次の新作はメジャーレーベルからのリリースなので、ファンとしては嬉しいです。

大学時代の懐かしい思い出のいっぱい詰まったアルバム。

でも何と言っても一番好きなのは「黄昏」。

京都コラージュで友達のDJがお別れと言って最後にこれをかけた時、まいったね、この歌詞には。

まだ未成熟な思想や若気の至りって感じの衝動的な思念、色んな若いエネルギーが詰まってるって感じ。

この前のマキシシングルには期待が大きすぎたため失望した。
今後出るニューアルバムに期待。

でもあの頃には戻れないんだよね。
過去の思い出が絡み合って聴きたくなるだけなんだよね。

懐かしくなってブッダブランドとかも今かけてこれを書いてる。無節操な俺。
