イタリアンメタルの代表格、ラビリンスの5th。
オラフ・トーセン脱退後の2作目となる今作。サウンドの方は、
ややヘヴィなギターリフやシンフォニックというよりはモダンなキーボードアレンジなど、単なるメロスピ、メロパワというよりは現代風のメロディックメタルという雰囲気になった。
そんな中、流麗なギターメロディや力量あるヴォーカルの歌唱には欧州のバンドらしい部分がしっかりとあり、そこが硬質なモダンさとしっかり共存している。
初期のファンからしたらすでに別ものバンドと思った方が良いだろうが、無理に定型のメロパワにしようとしていた前作よりも、むしろ好感が持てる音だ。

同郷のラプソディがスケールの大きな、
映画のような音楽性を追求しているのに対し、
こちらラビリンスはよりミニマルに、
よりバンドらしくあろうとしていると思う。
言うなれば、ライブを主観とした作風。

そこにモダンな要素が入ってしまうのは
「いかにも」なパワーメタルを求める人にとっては
不服感じるかと思います。

私は、そもそもパワーメタルがそこまで好きな曲調ではないので
今作のような冒険は大賛成。

パワーメタル、というよりは、ドリームシアターのような
ダークでヘビーなプログレバンドに変貌しようとしている。

意外とソウルフルに歌えるヴォーカル。
テクニカルなギター。
高レベルなのは間違いない。

ただ、ドラムの音は軽すぎる。
ここをどうにしかてほしかった。

前作が過去の作品の出来の悪い練り直しだったのに比べ、新しい方向性に挑戦しようとする姿勢が感じられるのがいい。イン・フレイムスの「サウンドトラック・トゥ・ユア・エスケイプ」に近い作風だが、あれに比べて早い曲が多いのが気持ちいい。まだまだ未完成な部分もあるが、とにかくこれでマンネリ化とおさらばしたと思う。
