5.0 out of 5 stars 戦争映画が苦手でも楽しめる, 2005/3/26
多くの戦争映画は押し付けがましく反戦や宗教、道徳を説く。
しかしこの作品にそのようなことはない。
史実を淡々と描き、そのリアルさゆえに迫力のある作品になっている。
また、よくある自国（英国）を賛美し、敵国（ズール人）を
差別するような表現はされていない。
特典映像を見ると、そういったことを表現しないように、
高い意識を持って製作されたのがよくわかる。
私は知らなかったのですが、英国の歴史に残る作品のようです。
質の高い映画です。

　1879年、セテワヨ率いる南アフリカ・ズールー王国軍が、進駐（侵略です）英国軍1,700人中1,300人を殺害したいわゆるイサンドルワナの戦い直後のお話し。ほぼ実話で、ウェールズ部隊将校8人と兵97人が4,000人のズールー王国軍を相手に砦に立てこもった。
　詰め襟制服の英国軍は、一糸乱れぬ規律を保ち、新型ボックス・チャンバー・ライフルで射的屋の標的のごとく、裸同然に槍と張りぼて盾のズールーをバッタバッタと撃ち殺す。さすがのズールーも退却して、その後、守備隊にはビクトリア勲章が授与された。
　英国では未だに「南アのアラモ」として語り継がれている。ＤＶＤは見ている方が汗が噴き出し、砂埃をかぶる迫力があり、星５つ！

内容については文句ありませんが、字幕の字が非常に小さい。普通の字幕の大きさと比べ、３分の２くらいしかありません。この映画を「懐かしい！」と思って買う人はまず５０代以上のはず。そういう人には読むのがつらいのでは？　もうちょっとメインの客層に配慮してもらいたいものです。
