トーリ・エイモスの2002年の野心的な音速の旅『Scarlet's Walk』のお陰で、彼女はアメリカ50州すべてに旅することになり、その道中ずっとアメリカにラブレターを書き、そして燃え立つ地の妖精は、再び志の高いコンセプト・アルバムを作って19曲――そしてそれほど隠されていない隠しトラックも１曲――を束ねて、『不思議の国のアリス』の新解釈の１部になりそうな庭のモチーフを作った。もうひとつの『A Little Shop of Horrors』だ。『The Beekeeper』は彼女のかなり自伝的な提唱者としての旅を、人生を変えるような出来事な感情を体験する中で育ちすぎた無意識のラビリンスを通じて列記したものだ。加えて、この10年をコーンウォールで暮らしたことが、確実にエイモスに影響を与えている。彼女はダフネ・デュ・モーリアの古典小説『Jamaica Inn』（邦題『巌窟の野獣』）からさえもインスピレーションを得ている。これは岩だらけの海岸を舞台にしたものだが、彼女の声の気骨を大幅に変化させている。「Hoochie Woman」のような曲では、クリッシー・ハインドと真似ているようにも聞こえる。これは彼女の初期の作品のことを考えると、歓迎すべき変化だ。また、鉄のようでいて朗々と響く不屈の「Goodbye Pisces」では驚かせてくれる。近年の記憶の中では、かなりよい失恋の曲のひとつだ。『The Beekeeper』は奇癖のあるシンガーが、1992年の『Little Earthquakes』のような気まぐれな部分を復活させた作品だが、ストーリーラインがずっと力強く、説得力もずっとあり、声のニュアンスもいい。やはり彼女のベストだ。（Jaan Uhelszki, Amazon.com）

Tori Amosの最新作となった今作品だが、今回もややエキセントリック
な部分は影を潜めコーラスを十分に取り入れた優しくアコースティック
な作品となっている。
「Sleeps with Butterflies」や「Jamaica Inn」のような曲はコーラスが最大に生かされた曲といえよう。
また「Parasol」や「Goodbye Pisces」は流して聴けるような曲で
前作で開拓した部分を発展させたような曲、もしくは「Mary's　of
theSea」のように「Past　the　Mission」を思い起こさせるシャウト
を多用したアコースティックな曲など内容は意外に多彩。
そして、1stに収録されていた「Winter」などのようにシンプルなピ
アノを基調とした「Original Sinsuality」や「Toast」など起伏はそ
れほど感じられないものの安心して聴ける内容となっている。

Tori Amosの新作、The　Beekeeperはこれまでのエキセントリックな彼女の路線に縛られる事無く前作と同様、自由奔放に作りたい音楽を作っているという印象をまず受ける。リードトラックのParasolやSleeps With Butterfliesは以前にも増してポップな印象を受けるがそれでも時折ゾクっとさせるようなピアノやヴォーカルは健在。これまでのファンだけでなく幅広く多くのリスナーを引き付けるコンテンポラリーさを秘めた傑作だ。

面白くない。表立ったエキセントリックさがまったくというほど無くなってしまった上にほのぼのしすぎて求心力が感じられない。Boys for PeleやScarlet's Walkではあれだけの曲数は必然だったと思ったけど、これはなんかただ長いだけって感じ。初期からのファンでこのアルバムが受け付けられないって人は結構多い。まあ次のAmerican Doll Posseがよかったのでいいけど。
