クラウス・テンシュテットの演奏に対する真摯な姿勢は過去にブラームスのロンドン・フィルとの交響曲第１番のＣＤのレヴューで書きましたが、そんな彼の姿勢を改めて痛感させられる入魂のワーグナーです。基本的には、ゆっくり目のテンポで、息の長いフレーズを作り、入念に曲を仕上げて行く。腰のすわった重厚な演奏です。なかでも、緊張感のある「神々の黄昏」からの「ジークフリートのラインへの旅」、「ジークフリートの死と葬送行進曲」、雄大なトロンボーンの旋律とヴァイオリンのリズムの掛け合いが絶品で、緩急のついたメリハリのある「タンホイザー」序曲、これ以上は不可能と思われるほど美しく、また入念に構成された「ローエングリン」第１幕への前奏曲、それと対照的に非常に華麗な「同」第３幕への前奏曲、テンポはゆっくり目だが弦楽器のザッツを少し堅めに統一していて、適度に重厚な「ニュルンベルクのマイスタージンガー」前奏曲、は特に優れている。優れたドイツ人指揮者と優れたドイツのオケによるワーグナー管弦楽曲集で、初心者からワーグナーはオペラも観るというワーグナー・ファンの方まできっと満足のゆく素晴らしい演奏であろう。もっと、この指揮者によるドイツものの録音がたくさんあれば、と願っても、当の本人が既に他界している今、それは叶わぬ希望である。

テンシュテットのワーグナーの演奏は少ないですが、どれも名演奏です! 来日公演でも、オールワーグナープログラムで演奏されましたが、体調も万全とはいえないにもかかわらずイギリスのオケから重厚なワーグナーを聴かせてくれました。 この演奏はオケがBPOということもあり来日公演よりさらにドイツ的で素晴らしい名演奏になりました! BPOの演奏はまさしく燻し銀! 重々しく、重厚な響きはワーグナーにぴったりです! 「タンホイザー」序曲の暗く、遅いテンポ。「リェンツィ」序曲の軽妙さ、どれも最高です! こんなワーグナーを聴かされたら、テンシュテットの全曲盤が聴きたくなりますが、それもかなわない今、この演奏を聴く以外にないなんて‥。 是非とも皆さんにテンシュテットのワーグナーを聴いて感動してもらいたいです!
