テクノ、音響派、ポストロックetc.幅広い音楽ファンを取り込み、2002年にバルセロナで行われたアートの祭典「sonar2002」に出演、また04年夏には東アジアツアーを成功させるなど、グローバルに活躍するweg。およそ2年4か月ぶりの3rdアルバムは、特徴である過剰なエディットやコラージュに、流麗なストリングス、フリーキーな生ドラム、ホーン隊、ピアノ、ベースなどが加わり、より生音志向に。80分を超える、映画のように完成された「嘘の世界」を楽しませる。


Album Details

He now returns with a band of freaky raw drums, horns, piano and a bass guitar, and tens of layers of guitar noise while retaining his well known style: excessive editing, collage and elegant strings arrangement. In self-produced The Lie Lay Land, his first album in two years, he created another grandeur fiction, 10 tracks, 80 minutes long. Listening to The Lie Lay Land resembles watching the films, say, by Emir Kusturica or Jan Svankmajer who portray a fleeting fantasy ludicrously and poignantly at the same time, or the films of Lars von Trier and Gaspar Noe who always sway our emotions with a relentless and extremely demanding story progression. His music, like those films, shows us a fictional world as a finished work.

「dream’s end come true」は電子音がこれでもかってくらいに
激しくいびつに、複雑に絡み合う快(怪)作でした。物憂げな美メロに
ノイズの毒を被せていく美学。壮大でかっちょえかった。

そして近作は？というと、その美学は保たれてた。いつもどうり尺も
長くて壮大。変わったのは、毒と音。毒のほうはピー！ガー！
ドオンッ！というのが抑え気味に。突発的ではなくて徐々に被せていく
感じ。音のほうは「生」っぽさが増した。ホーン・ストリングスは
モチ、アコギや打楽器etc。といっても、勿論ピーガーいっとります。
安心を。

んで結局、美メロ・ノイズは健在。緩急つけてきますよ。今回は。
繊細でスリリング。狂気とメランコリー。

聴き終わると、やっぱ天才。それに尽きる。

長い曲構成、明快なコード進行、淡々とした無機質なリズムに乗せて、不穏かつシャープで陰鬱なSEがとりとめもなく散りばめられ、聴く人を危い夢の中に誘うような音楽です。
特にSEは、人や子供や獣やカラスの声が巧みに”不穏に”電子処理されており、その”雰囲気”が好きな方にはうってつけでしょう。（私も結構好きですが･･｡）

穏やかそうでいて、裏に毒の牙を閃かせているような･･･、
烈しそうでいて、　夜は共に眠れる安らぎを与えてくれるような･･･。

いわゆる”陽　か　陰”というどちらかと言えば　間違いなく”陰”の音楽です。

”陰”なのですが、決して聴いていて”陰鬱”な気分に引き摺り込まれるような音楽ではありません。
これはおそらく、”詞”や”ヴォーカル”が無いというだけでなく、作者の”精神性”が、
音楽の中に生々しく息づくことを意図的に避けられて創られているというせいもあるかも知れません。
（勝手な推測ですいません。）

音楽の上に散りばめられた、一聴不穏で”危い刃なようなSE”も、決して作家自身の”精神性”を象徴するような重苦しいものではなく、微細に散りばめられた精巧なモザイクのように、最終的にはリスナーの”感受性 ”に委ねるような”絵画的美しさ”に重きをおいて創られているような感じがします。

作品自身が、強烈に迫って来て対峙せざるを得ないような”悪夢”ではなく、精巧な額縁の中に綺麗に切り取られ、鑑賞されることを静かに待っているような”悪夢”です。

このあたりを、”物足りない”と感じてしまうか、もしくは”心地いい”感じ取れるか･･･、リスナーによって評価の分かれる所かも知れません。

日常で聴くと、どうも気分が不愉快です。
いつもはいい天気だと気分がよくなるし、なにかいいことありそうと思うのですが、そう思いたくない時に聴くとまた違う世界が見えてきたり、いい意味で不愉快です。
WEGは前々から気になっていて、思い切った結果は非常にいいかんじです、いやな波に飲み込まれていくような。

でも他の人には、薦められないです、好みが大きく分かれそうですし。
好きな人には、もうたまらない一枚になりそう、だと思いますね。
