2003年の日本でのライブを見に行ったことがあるのですが,彼女は一回も
歌うことはなくすさまじく内容の濃いjazzライブであったことが強く印象に
のこっていた。終わった後でこういうサウンドがまたアルバムでリリース
され聴けることを期待していた。

今回のアルバムは「jazz」アルバムである。いつものように強いアジテーションを思わせるファンクなどは鳴りをひそめて,ただ静かで濃密なjazzの
サウンドを展開している。

ゲストも豪華で,歌声が心地よいSabina ScubaをはじめCassandra Wilsonや
Lalah Hathaway 　そのほかではKenny Garrettなんかが参加している。

しかも個性の強いアーティストが参加しているのに，突出しているのではなくて,meshellに共鳴しあい見事に調和のとれたサウンドになっている。

個人的には,4番目のオープニングに柔らかな打楽器で始まる11分にわたって
展開される曲には,彼女のインスピレーションの凄さが垣間見えたような
気がした。

今までも一作ごとに変貌を遂げてきたMeshell。今回はJAZZミュージシャンと一緒に演っています。JAZZとしては今までにもあった音といえないこともないが、今回の一番の聞き物はMeshellのベースが音楽に与える影響でしょう。このメンツなら、ハードや重たいロマンチックさを感じさせそうなのに、なぜかフェロモンいっぱいな感じになってしまうのです･･･。

濃い。崇高なミュージシャンシップが強烈に漂っていますね。路線としてはコルトレーンを汲んでいるようにも思えましたが、Vocal曲はどれもフェミニンな感じです。今回ばかりはインスト曲のほうがFunkしてて良いですね。
