本作はメセニーが、オーネット・グループの一員として参加経験のあるヘイデン(b）,ヒギンズ(ds）と組んだトリオによる83年11月の録音。
First Circleの３ヶ月前である。
全曲中３曲がオーネットのナンバーということで有名であるが、オープニングのLonely Womann（オーネットのものとは同名異曲）に惹かれるか否かで当アルバムの好き嫌いが分かれるであろう。エレアコであろうか、メランコリックな響きのマイナー・キーによるスローナンバーに時折どっぷりと浸かりたくなるのである。６曲目は哀愁味がさらにいや増す曲調であるが、ソロは｢ついておいで｣的なギター・シンセによるスペイシーな展開・・
アルバムトータルとしては前半はメインストリーム・ジャズ系、後半はOfframp的なエレクトロニクスを多用したフリーキーな展開を含む曲群。もちろんオーネットのナンバーも楽しめるが、メセニーのメインストリーム的アプローチが耳に新鮮なアルバムである。
個人的にはOfflampをしのいで聞く機会の多いアルバムである。
なお85年12月のSong Xではオーネット自身との競演を聞ける。

　オーネット・コールマン・トリオの名リズム・セクションを従えた名作。冒頭の「ロンリー・ウーマン」のアコギ（でもたぶんプラグド）を用いたトラディショナルなアドリヴからコールマンを彷彿とさせるフリー・ジャズ的なカオス的演奏まで、実に多彩な側面を見せる。リズム・セクションの強力なサポートについては今さら触れるまでもないだろう。本作は三人で作り上げた傑作であって、メセニーひとりのアルバムではないと言えよう。ジャズ・ギターの名盤だ。

オーネットコールマンを敬愛するパットメセニーが、オーネットコールマンの強力リズム隊であるｂのチャーリーヘイデン、ｄｒのビリーヒギンズと組んで作り上げたアルバムです。
サウンドの方は、後に、ヘイデンと作るアルバムから想像されると肩透かしをくらう、かなり、ジャズのメインストリーム的なアコースティックなものからスタートします。ただ、後半に入ると、ＰＭＧ的エレクトリックなものに入っていきます。とはいえ、前半部分についても、じっくり聞くと、メセニーらしいｇが聞けますし、ヘイデン＆ヒギンズのリズム隊は、強力そのもので、メセニーらしいメインストリームへのアプローチを楽しむことができます。ただ、今の自分的には、後半が楽しめたのも事実。
とはいえ、今後も、繰り返し聞くことになるであろうアルバム。前半部分が容認できると思うメセニーファンの方であれば、買いの１枚。
