汲めども尽きぬジミヘンのリイシュー最新作は69年2月24日、ロイヤル・アルバート・ホールで行なわれたコンサートを収めたライヴ盤。過去にも部分的に発表され、評価の高かったライヴだが、今回は開演前のサウンド・チェックも含めて2時間に及ぶステージを完全収録。デイヴ・メイスンやクリス・ウッドらを加えた「ルームフル・オブ・ミラーズ」や、「ヴードゥー・チャイル」など代表曲を熱演するジミの音宇宙にどっぷり浸かれる本作。彼を大物に育てたロンドンでの最後の公演という点でも、重要なアイテムといえる。 (飯塚達弘) --- 2005年03月号

怪しげなジャケットですが、このシリーズはブートではありません。
当時の複雑な契約関係で、遺族が管理できない音源をリリースしており
音質も納得できる物です。
当時Jimiがエレクトリックレディスタジオでのレコーディングに専念する為
フィルムコンサートを収録する、という策を考え出し収録された物の音源で
過去に「Experience」「More Experience」等、色々なタイトルで
リリースされてきた物です。音質は現代のリマスタリングと比較すると
やや厳しいですが上記の過去タイトルに比べれば良好です。
但し、定位は右チャンネルにベース、左にドラム、センターにギター＆ヴォーカル
という７０年代らしい定位のままなので、少々残念です。


あの名盤「IN THE WEST」に収録されていた「Little Wing」
「Voodoo Chile」の名演はこの日収録された物です。
全体にテンションが高く、ムラのない演奏です。
特に「Hear My Train〜」や「Bleeding Heart」等の
ブルースチューンは他に見られない程の名演だと思います。

但しサウンドチェックを含むフル収録２枚組となると長尺で
コンパクトにまとめられた楽曲に慣れた若いリスナーには
不向きかも知れません。
このヴォリューム感が逆に新しいリスナーを遠ざけてしまう
可能性もあるのでは？と心配にもなります。

そう考えると前述の「IN THE WEST」や１枚物の「Winter Land」
「In Concert」などの凝縮されたベストライブ的なアルバムが
現在リリースされていないのは非常に残念です。

コンプリート物が出た事によって逆に編集物の意味、意義の
ような物を再確認した次第です。

ジミの数あるライブの中でもかなり出来がいいこの公演。
音質も概ねいいのだが、Wild Thingで音声にノイズが入るので−1。
だが演奏内容自体は文句無しの５つ星だ。
中でもLittle　Wing、Stone　Freeはジミの
キャリアを通じても1,2を争う出来ではないかと思う。
