今回の一連のデジタルリマスター再発に伴い、アルバムを聴いてみよう（沢田研二は好きだったけど、知っているのはシングル曲ばかりでした）という気になり購入しましたが、想像以上に素晴らしい作品でした。
シングル曲の「ストリッパー」「渚のラブレター」は有名ですが、他の収録曲も傑作揃いで、文句なくロックアルバムと言えます。
全編に渡り、伊藤銀次のアレンジがかなりのハイテンション。
かまやつひろし作曲の「想い出のアニー・ローリー」は、流麗なメロディーとフェイクっぽいアレンジが一体化した快作だし、吉田建作曲の「FOXY FOX」は、いかにも優れたベーシストが作った、という感じの緊張感に満ちた楽曲構成で、カッコ良すぎ。この曲や、タイトなロックンロールナンバー「DIRTY WORK」では、ゲストのポール・キャラックとビリー・ブレムナーが、パブロックのお約束的なバックコーラスをキメてくれています。ビリー・ブレムナーに至っては、他の数曲でリードギターも弾いてるじゃないですか！今まで全然知らなかった。
ジュリーを喜んで聴いていた子供が、青年時にロックに目覚め、やがてパブロックにハマり、今、このアルバムを聴いて、過去の自分とリンクしました。嬉しいことです。他のアルバムも聴いてみようと思います。

僕が最初に聴いたジュリーのナンバーが「ストリッパー」だった。幼い日にボンヤリTV(懐かしの歌謡曲とかその類)を見てたら、画面にド派手な化粧をした男が映った。「おっ、なんやこいつは?」と幼い僕はいぶかしげに思った。‘ダダダダダッ!’というドラムのイントロが流れその男が唄いだした。‘ヒールを脱ぎ捨て ルージュを脱ぎ捨て 全てを脱ぎ捨てたらおいで 裸にならなきゃ 始まらない ショーの始まりさ・・・♪’僕はその歌声を聴いた瞬間、頭にアントンの延髄切りを受けた様な衝撃を感じた。「な、なんてカッチョいいんだ!?」幼い僕はTVの前に釘付けになった。その日以来、ジュリーが僕の人生になった。(大袈裟かも知れないけど本当なのよ)毎日毎日ジュリーを聴いて、鏡の前で振り付けの練習をしたり、唄ってる時の顔の表情を真似たりしていた。ジュリーの唄は僕の骨となり血となって今だに心を燃え上がらせてくれる・・・ジュリーの唄が聴けるだけで「生きてて良かった!」と思えちゃうのです。

｢渚のラブレター｣に代表される、夏だ爽やかポップ曲、｢ストリッパー｣に代表される、夜だ淫靡だロック曲、が散りばめられた粋なアルバム。
加瀬邦彦プロデュース、伊藤銀次が全曲編曲でロンドン録音です。

当時のエピソード。私が｢渚のラブレター｣を初めて聴いたのは、シングル発売直前に中島みゆきのオールナイトニッポンのその日の１曲目として掛かった時でした。みゆき嬢が「沢田研二作曲ですか、すごいですねぇ」とコメントしてました。
ジュリー曰く｢渚のラブレター｣は最初｢おまえがパラダイス｣のような12ビート調で作ったものを、もっとテンポを良くしシャッフル調にした方が良いとの意見をもらい、この曲調になったと、当時本人のラジオ番組で仰っていました。

また、秋から冬の賞取りレースに向けて用意した曲がイマイチで、それらの曲よりもアルバム収録曲の｢ストリッパー｣の方が優れてる、ということで、これがシングルカットされた、とのことです。
この曲でレコード大賞金賞にノミネートされ、西田敏行の｢もしもピアノが弾けたなら｣と共に｢ルビーの指環｣の対抗馬として煽られてました。

このアルバムの中で私が一番好きな曲は三浦徳子(よしこ)作曲、加瀬邦彦作曲の｢テーブル４の女｣です。スリリングな詞にカッコイイメロディーと演奏です。
ほか、アルバム｢G.S.I LOVE YOU｣で｢午前３時のエレベーター｣という曲でいいメロディーを提供していたかまやつひろし氏が、このアルバムでも｢想い出のアニー・ローリー｣という秀逸な楽曲を提供しています。
