アルバム構成としては、「バラード・ロック…と、どの路線を中心に行くのか？」
と、多少迷走気味な感じはしますが、バンド演奏も、音も悪くないと思います。
（TVで「勝手にしやがれ｣等をライブで見ていた人なら、
アルバム「思い切り気障な人生」の音よりも、違和感無く聴く事が出来ると思います。）
そして・・・ジュリー自身は、もう完全に自分の売り所が分かっています。

「JEWEL　JULIE」〜まさにアルバム名通り、
どの曲も「甘くせつなく、今にも壊れそうな輝ける宝石」なジュリーが満載です。
特に、「四月の雪」のあの歌い方は、確信犯だろうと言うくらい凄い。
他の方も書かれていますが、「なんて切ない声を出すのよジュリーってば！」←この台詞そのままです。
このアルバムは、あくまでも沢田研二ではなくてジュリーの世界です。

この後、アルバム「THE FUGITIVE 愛の逃亡者」を経て、
名盤「いくつかの場面」へと行く序盤として、沢田研二の世界を知りたい人には欠かせないアルバム。
必聴です。

個人的には、バンドをやっている人にも聴いて欲しい。
今、下手な小細工を使わなくても、これだけ迫力のある演奏が出来るバンドってどれだけいるんでしょうか？

井上バンドがバックについた本作。演奏は荒さが見える物の、それが逆に生っぽい音を出していて良い感じ。しかし「四月の雪」は名曲です。なんて切ない声を出すのよジュリーってば!シングルになった「追憶」はアルバムヴァージョンでシングルより長め。“サリー”こと岸部修三(現一徳)のベースがいいですね。サリーはもっとミュージシャンとして評価されて然るべき存在だと思う。

７０年代のジュリー＆井上バンドはカッコ良かった。
当時、日本のロックバンドはみんなむさ苦しかった。
ミカバンドとここだけはファッショナブルだった。全員ロンドンブーツだったり…。
ジュリーはグラムロッカーばりだったし。バンド演奏もカッコよかった！！

1. お前は魔法使い 9. 悲しい戦い は当時ライブの定番
スタジオライブに近い感じがします。
11. 追憶 シングル盤とは違います。長いイントロが入っています。（ジュリーにしては珍しいトラックです）

この頃の映像は「炎の肖像」「ワンステップフェスティバル」のDVDで見ることができます。
