　オリジナルリリースは７２年９月１０日。詞・曲が全曲自作のアルバムは、長い歴史の中で本作だけです。演奏は井上堯之バンド、編曲も井上バンドの井上堯之と大野克夫で、実質上「沢田研二＆井上堯之バンド」のアルバムといっていいのではと思います。ジャケットも本人の手書き（特徴のある筆跡）と写真の切り貼りで、良い意味で粗い感触です。
　とにかく声が若々しい。高音部をあえぐように唄うところがいい。楽曲の方も、自作らしい素朴な佳曲が並んでいます。フォーク調の「被害妄想」、内田裕也を唄ったＲ＆Ｒ「湯屋さん」、シンプルなバラード「悲しくなると」「涙」、重いギターリフによる「お前なら」、コミカルな「誕生日」など。個人的に好きなのは、ハモンドオルガンとワウワウギターがカッコいい「怒りの捨て場」と、歌唱が素晴らしい「気がかりな奴」です。
　サウンドは、前作「ＪＵＬＩＥ　II」と異なり、シンプルなバンドサウンドです。７０年代らしいタイトさがあります。ちなみに、井上バンドは、本作の録音と同じ頃、有名な「太陽にほえろ！」のサウンドトラックの録音を行っており、両者の全体のサウンドや楽器の音は殆ど同じです。
　今年（２００５年）の沢田研二のツアーにおいては、本作から久々に「不良時代」が唄われているそうです。この曲は、少年時代の自分を少し恥じながら回想するスローナンバーで、本人のお気に入りなのかもしれません。
　今回のＣＤは、以前のＣＤに比べ低音域が豊かです。唯一残念なのは、当時のアナログ盤の最後に収録されていたシークレットトラック「くわえ煙草にて」が、今回のＣＤ化においても未収録であることです。

ジュリーと言えば派手な化粧にグラムロック歌謡曲でト〜キオ♪を思い浮かべる人が多いだろう。確かに派手なロックジュリーも素晴らしいが、シンプルなフォーク歌謡曲ジュリーも僕は大好きだ。 (個人的に派手な時の音楽をジュリー、素朴な時の音楽を沢田研二として僕は聴いてる)さて、本作は素朴な沢田研二が素晴らしい一品である。シンプルなメロディラインに乗るまだ若い沢田研二の唄。タテノリじゃなくて静かに体全体が動き出す。佳作揃いの秀作。特に好きなのは「ラヴ・ソング」曲終りに本来の曲がフェイドアウトして、シンガーズスリーのコーラスが心を揺さぶる名曲です。

まず、私のように「派手なジュリー」「哀愁漂う沢田研二」しか知らない人が行き成りこのアルバムを買うと驚きます。
なぜなら、このアルバムには、派手なジュリーも、哀愁漂う沢田研二、そして・・・おそらくGSジュリーもいません。
なので。
まず、上記のイメージを激しく求めている人は、他のアルバムから聴いていくといいと思います。
良くも悪くも、色んなジャンルの曲が入り乱れていているので、「統一感が無い」と思う人もいるかも知れないし、
「この感覚が沢田研二なのか？」と思う人もいるでしょう。
個人的には、ギター一本抱えて何処かの土手に座って思うがままに歌っているような、沢田研二はアリなんですが。

聴いていて「本当に倖せなんだろうなぁ」と、お茶を啜りながら聴いてしまいそう･･･
と思えば、ローリングストーンズを思い浮かべるような曲もあって、飽きません。
そして曲のみならず、ジャケットのあちらこちらに書かれているジュリーの走り書きは、
この先、GS上がりに過ぎなかった沢田研二がどう代わっていくのかが、垣間見れる楽しさ満載です。

【ジョリー化粧けばけば】。（←ジュリーじゃなく、ジョリーです！）
数年後の自分の姿が見えていたんでしょうか？（笑）
