　名作「SURROUNDED BY THIEVES」（'02年、2nd）以来の、3rd。
　このHIGH ON FIREは、中心人物Matt Pikeの経歴（元SLEEP）から、ドゥーム・メタル的なイメージを持たれます。しかし前作でも、既に“重い・遅いドゥーム・メタル”の域より脱却し、BLACK SABBATH＆MOTORHEADな'70年代ロック的重量メタル路線を具体化してきました。
　本作では、名曲3のように基本は前作同様、手数の多い・力強いドラムを軸とした埃っぽいメタルですが、VENOMの風味もある1を筆頭に、アルバム全体で起伏を持たせています。そのためか、吐き捨て型で余り音域が広くないMattのボーカルであっても、楽曲自体は多彩な印象があります。
　録音状態も、モコモコしていた前作より多少クリアになり、迫力が増加、ギター・リフも鮮明になり、更に魅力的に聴こえます。
　ボーナス曲10はJUDAS PRIESTのカバー（メタル聖書的アルバム「BRITISH STEEL」（'80）収録）ですが全く違和感なく、このバンドらしい荒々しい・格好良い仕上がりです。
　とにかく、真にヘヴィなロックを嗜好する方であれば、満足すること請け合いの傑作です。

過去からのへヴィネスというものをギュッと凝縮したかのようなアルバム。
音の迫力がそこら辺のバンドよりけた違いに凄い。
聴いていると邪悪なモノが暴れながら近づいてくるような感覚に襲われます。
Matt Pike、彼をを支える凄腕リズム隊、そしてSteve Albini
彼らが集ったからこそできた究極のへヴィ・アルバム。
値段も安いですし、Judas Priestのカバーも入ってるとくるので
絶対国内盤がお勧め。

伝説的なドゥームバンド、スリープの元メンバー、マット　パイク率いるバンドの3rd。
スリープの最後のアルバムはドゥームの名盤と言われ、そのアルバムは正直重くて引きずるリフには耐えられませんでした。
このバンドはこのアルバムで初めて聴きましたが、ドゥームではありませんね。確かに2曲目など、ドゥーミーなリフがありますが、非常に聴きやすくVENOMに近い音で、荒くそして攻撃的なサウンドにはやられました。聴いておいてよかったです。
このアルバムを聴くきっかけとなった、JUDAS PRIESTのカヴァー曲RAPID FIRE。かっこよすぎます。
