Linux、FreeBSDに対応した日本語入力システム。前バージョン「Wnn7」で初搭載され、入力効率の向上を実現した「入力予測機能」が更に進化。「標準予測辞書」と「入力した言葉」を元に入力候補を予測するだけでなく、選択した日本語につながる最適な候補をも予測して表示する。単語の言い回しを変えたい時は「連想変換」で同義語に変換が可能で、難読語の漢字も単語を選んでから変換キーを押すと読みを表示する「逆引変換」が可能。母音の過不足や子音の超過など、タイプミスを自動的に補正して変換する入力補正も行う。さらに、UNICODEバージョン3.2の全ての日本語文字をサポートすることにより、いままでLinuxでは表示できなかった漢字が表示可能になり、最新GUIライブラリであるGTK+2に対応し、わかりやすく使いやすいユーザインターフェースを提供。言語変換の次世代標準フレームワークとして開発された「IIIMF(Internet Intranet Input Method Framework」にも対応している。約30万語の「基本辞書」に加え、分野別に細分化された「分野別辞書」を約22万語追加収録した辞書を搭載。FreeBSDの動作はOS側での正式対応後に可能。学生、教職員、教育機関対象のアカデミック版。
