とんでもない映像センスを感じる。映像のツボを知り尽くしているというか、どう撮ったら、どう映るかを、ここまでイメージを緻密に再現できるってのはスゲぇ。CGなぞ使わずとも、映像はここまで出来ちゃうのだ。あらゆる特撮物やアニメーションやドキュメンターの美術的な部分だけを凝縮して、さらにそれを培養させたような内容だ。日常的な風景と、お決まりの視覚的美術効果に収まっている一般人をその外側へと導いて、あらためて網膜の無限の可能性という物を感じさせてくれる。

シュルレアリストとしても段違いに上等で、「桶の家」の装飾美や、「エトセトラ」の夢遊的な世界観に、普段使っていない神経系が目を覚ますような独特の快楽を感じる。「エトセトラ」はまるで２０年前のTVゲームを見ているような無機物的な美しさで堪らない。そして「レオナルドの日記」は、単純にスーパークールで、ダヴィンチのデッサンと白黒のドキュメントが交互に相走行して、ジェットコースターとコーヒーカップに同時に乗っているような爽快な混乱を味わえる。

ブラケージやパイクと並んで世界最大の映像アーティストとして、その世界観を絶賛しちゃえるシュヴァンクマイエルは、それでいて遊び心やブラック・コメディ満載で、ピエロの高笑いに囲まれているような酩酊状態に陥ってしまうことは必須。音楽もスゴイいい。映像サーカスといった感じです。

いつもの人形アニメーションも含まれていますが、一番印象深かったのは、コストニツェ。
フス戦争の死者等、何万人もの人骨で作ったシャンデリゼ等々・・・で飾られた
納骨堂のドキュメンタリ。歴史的背景を知らないのでイマイチよく分からない点もあるのですが、
すごい量の人骨に圧倒されるとともに、これってどうなん？？と思いました。
表題作のドンファンは、期待してましたがちょっと長くて退屈してしまいました。
特典として、イジー・トルンカのお話２話、さわりだけ入っています。すごく参考になりました。
