何と言ってもジャバウォッキーが素晴らしい。ストーリーもなく、ただただ映像と可愛い音楽が淡々と流れていくのであるが、次に何が起こるのか？とワクワクして眼が離せない。シュバンクマイエル監督は、よく悪趣味と言われるが、自分にはピンと来ない・・・まあ子供が怖がるという意味では、悪趣味な作品はあるが（笑）。しかし、ジャバウォッキーに関しては子供も楽しめる素晴らしい映像作品です。

短編なのだが、続けて見てしまうととにかく疲れる。一つの作品を消化する前に次の作品が始まってしまうので、１つ観る毎に少し時間を置いたほうが良いかもしれない。ヤン・シュヴァンクマイエル監督の描写は心地よいものではない。むしろ不快である。それでも、なぜが観たくなる。引き寄せられる。そういう力を持った作品と撮れるのは、やはりそれだけ監督に才能が有るという事なのだろう。
短編集の中で、頭に強烈に叩き込まれた作品は「家での静かな一週間」である。ある男が壁に穴を開け、その穴から異世界を覗き込むという話である。無色で騒音だらけの世界と色鮮やかで無音の世界の対比は観ていて引き込まれてしまった。他にも「庭園」や「オトランタ城」といった作品はとても魅力的で、釘付けになってしまった。
こういった作品を受け付けない方も多いと思うが、一度でいいから試しに観てほしい。意外とヤミツキになるかもしれない。

物語を楽しむというよりは、映像を楽しむ感じ。
かぶり物をかぶった人？が、手品を披露したり、おもちゃが動き出したり・・・
シュバンクマイエル好きな方にはオススメ。しかし未経験な方は
とりあえずレンタルとかから入ったほうがいいと思います。
比較的、グロい映像は少なめですので、入っていきやすい、とは思います。
