デトロイトで地に足をつけた活動を続ける、遅咲きの才人によるサード・アルバム。独自のポップ感覚は、ベンソンならではのもの。ビートルズなどのビッグ・ネームと比較されてしまうのも頷ける。新鮮なのにどこか懐かしさを感じさせるサウンドがたまらない。

ヒゲ面でこちらを見据える最近の写真を見ていると、あどけなさの残る表情で場慣れしていないといったライヴを展開した初来日が、懐かしい。今や盟友ジャック・ホワイトとともにデトロイト・シーンを支えるブレンダン・ベンソン。ソロ活動もマイペースながら、前作、そして今作と地にしっかり足が付いた好盤を世に送りだしているといえる。特にこの3作目は、持ち前のポップ・センスがザックリとしたバンドっぽい音作りにより、キラキラとさらなる輝きを増した印象。耳馴染みのいいメロディは、アコースティック調やファウンテインズ・オブ・ウェイン調(?)、フィル・スペクター調などをまといながら、懐かしくも新鮮に響いてくる。もちろんプロデューサーのチャド・ブレイクも“分かってらっしゃる”仕事をしたと思う。だがそれ以上に、経験値プラス、伸び伸びと音楽と向き合った結果が、カラッと晴れわたった青空のような本作を生んだのではないか。歌詞には、明るいとは言い切れないものも多いが。 (兒玉常利) --- 2005年04月号

とにかくギター・ポップ炸裂ってな感じのアレンジの曲で最高にノリがいいです。
80年代パワー・ポップを連想させる聴かせるツボを押さえてのギター・サウンドがたまらない。
正にポップ街道まっしぐら。

前作にあたる２枚目「ラパルコ」発表までに６年を費やさざるを得なかった彼の苦悩が、遂に音楽的成果として大きく花開いたというべき大傑作。

前作までに漂っていたプライベート録音ならではの手作り感はそのままに、よりサウンド的に強化され、向こう受けするような垢抜けた感じが前面に出てきた。決して彼のピュアな感性を損なわず、メジャー感をかもし出した本作は、ブレンダンの成長と、ミキサーとして協力したチャド・ブレイク（スザンヌ・ヴェガ等との仕事で有名）の貢献の賜物だろう。

どの曲もいとおしくて、口ずさみながら胸がキュンとなるような感じがたまらない。ビートルズ的なメロディがこれほどまでにピュアに、そしてヴィヴィッドに伝えられるアーティストは、今の時代、彼しかいないのではないか。

６０年代を思わせる洒落たジャケットとともに、春を迎える今、じっくり聴いて欲しい素晴らしい作品です。
