こころの中に暗い、薄暮の部屋があるなら、SADEとはそこにゆっくりと、しずかに染みわたる抒情そのものでしょうか。
哀愁や穏やかな愛が、ささやかにしっとりと部屋を照らしだします。黄昏に染まった壁紙が情感を映し出すような、音の風景があります。

そして今作はLovers Rockというジャンルがもたらす穏やかさ以上に、ヘレン自身の精神的な深まりが色濃く表れた作品でした。
R&Bの要素が少し増えつつ、しかしその音はやはりシンプルで、間合いも絶妙。
なのに非常に深い質感があり、音楽の底流に海を抱くような包容力を伝えるリーダー作品なのです。
従来のジャズコンテンポラリーよりもっと深くしなやかなソウルのフロウが流れており、そしてどの曲も非常に黄昏ています。
1「By Your Side」からそうですし、すべての曲に、こころの懐かしい部分へ訴えかける郷愁の色彩を持ち合わせた作品でした。

これ以前の作品とは、全く違った印象を受けました。シャーディの代名詞、ムーディ＆ジャジー的要素はあまりありません。演奏は至ってシンプル。楽器の主役は、ベースからアコースティック・ギターと打ち込みに替わり、シャーディの歌もやや訥々と内向きで全体に地味な感じです。ぐっとプライベートな印象です。地味に聴こえる分、疲れ感というか、独特のくたびれ感や深みがいっそう際立ちます。夜遅くまできつい仕事をやらされた後や、何か悲しいことがあった時に聴くと、ききますよ。このサウンドは。軽そうで結構重いです。ちょっとゆるんだところは元ちとせに近いフィーリングを感じます。このお皿は、コアなシャーディ常習者の方向けでしょう。・・・では、おやすみなさい。今日はいろいろあって・・・疲れました・・・。

このアルバムはVocalのSade Aduが新たな伴侶と命を宿して誕生した作品だ。
伴侶がジャマイカ人のせいかレゲエ調の曲もある。
彼女は自分の経験から搾り出して歌詞を書く人なので、どうしても寡作になってしまうが、もう6年経ったんだから、早く出して!
