オリジナルは1994年。彼女独特の世界をとことん堪能できるベスト版。

シャーデーは基本的にジャズボーカル的なのですが、ナイジェリア出身という
生い立ちからか、この手のラブバラードにおいて、ソウルやブルース等とは完全に
一線を画した独自の世界を作り出している感じです。しかもこれが胸を打つ。

曲順はほぼ年代順で、今でも輝きを失わない#2Hang On...や#5Sweetest...等の
初期のヒットもいいですが、繰り返し聞いていると#8,#11,#13など、後ろの方の
曲の良さが耳に残るようになります。価格もウレシイ。長く楽しめる１枚です。

僕がSADEを知ったのは、中２のころで『Promise』が売り出されたころだった。
いまだ古臭さを感じない楽曲と歌声は最高です。
ニューアルバムを期待します。それにしても、寡作だよなぁ。

対訳が付いているので、耳で聞きながら、訳詞を
読むと、不思議なことに気が付いた。

シャーデーと初めて出会ったのは、私は１０年以上
前だが、当時は訳詞も手元になく、意味も分からず
聴いていた。
そのはずなのに、歌詞の言わんとするところは、
ちゃんと心に届いていた、気がする。

きちんとした単語ではないが、雰囲気や、この曲に
込められた、ポリシーや主題が。

恋の歌が多い。
独特の声からかもしだされる色気。
一朝一夕ではない、声から背後から、
シャーデーという女性の全てが、生み出す
強烈で、そしてけして押しつけがましくない、
色気である。

どっぷりと、シャーデーの色気と癒しの世界
に浸れる。
そんな一枚である。
